SSDs that give wings to booting, the all-out effort for mass adoption!
Published2015.10.08 10:32Toshiba announced on the 7th that it is officially launching the 'TOSHIBA Q300 SSD (hereinafter, Q300)' in Korea to accelerate the popularization of SSDs.
Solid State Drives (SSDs), which offer faster data transfer speeds than traditional Hard Disk Drives (HDDs), have continuously evolved; however, it is true that consumers have hesitated to adopt them due to their high prices. Nevertheless, Toshiba is determined to lead the mass adoption of SSDs by securing price competitiveness.
The Q300 is equipped with Toshiba Advanced's 19nm Toggle TLC NAND Flash memory and the Toshiba TC58NC1000 controller. It will be released in the domestic market in three capacities: 240GB, 480GB, and 960GB. It supports sequential read speeds of up to 550MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 530MB/s, and achieves 4KB random read speeds of 86,000 IOPS and 4K random write speeds of 83,000 IOPS. It simultaneously improves the speed and reliability that are the inherent strengths of SSDs.
Toshiba explains that the Q300, the first retail SSD series to feature TLC-based NAND flash memory, optimizes performance algorithms through 'Adaptive Size SLC Write Cache Technology'. In addition, it is equipped with SMART functionality that supports an optimized user environment by self-diagnosing the SSD status, and 'DEVSLP (Device Sleep),' a low-power technology that extends laptop battery life, ensuring stable performance and usage time for various devices.
In addition, it is equipped with various features to prevent performance degradation and data errors, such as next-generation TRIM (Deterministic Zeroing TRIM), GC (Garbage Collection), NCQ (Native Command Queuing), and SMART ECC (Error Correction Code). Furthermore, through the downloadable NTI Echo3 migration software, the OS and various data stored on the existing HDD can be transferred (cloned) to the SSD with just a few clicks to enable booting.
Although SSDs have recently become widely known to the point where even users with relatively little PC knowledge can easily attempt installation and upgrades, there are still many complex and technical terms that make it somewhat difficult for the general public to understand, especially for beginners and female customers who lack knowledge.
Reflecting these customer demands, Toshiba plans to deliver easy and fun explanations of SSDs by structuring its online product descriptions in a webtoon format, covering topics such as "What is an SSD?", "How to install an SSD," and "How to troubleshoot an SSD."

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. Ecolab Expands AI Data Center Cooling Business Through Acquisition of CoolIT
Ecolab has agreed to acquire CoolIT Systems, a liquid cooling company for AI data centers, for approximately $4.75 billion. The transaction is expected to close by Q3 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
