Samsung Electronics Launches Affordable 'Gear VR' Compatible with Latest Galaxy Phones
Published2015.11.24 17:34Samsung Electronics has launched the 'Gear VR,' an affordable virtual reality headset compatible with various latest Galaxy smartphones.
The newly released 'Gear VR' is compatible with the 'Galaxy Note 5', 'Galaxy S6 Edge+', 'Galaxy S6', and 'Galaxy S6 Edge'.
The retail price is 129,800 won, allowing consumers to experience virtual reality content at a reasonable price.
Gear VR supports a 360° panoramic view and a wide 96° field of view, providing a vivid sense of space as if the user were inside the video.
Weighing 318g, it is 19% lighter than its predecessor, which was released exclusively for the 'Galaxy S6' last May, and features a new foam cushion to provide a more comfortable fit. In addition, the touchpad area has been expanded to enhance usability, and the accuracy of head tracking, which switches the screen according to the user's movements, has been improved to allow for a more vivid virtual reality experience.
'Gear VR' offers a variety of exclusive content through Oculus Cinema, 360° Photo, 360° Video, etc., and also introduces content specialized for domestic consumers.
Everland plans to provide a 360° VR video of various rides such as 'Horror Maze', 'T Express', 'Safari', 'Thunder Falls', and 'Amazon Express', offering an experience that feels just like being in the actual theme park. In addition, CJ E&M's Mnet program 'M Countdown' will also be produced as a VR video to provide an experience of being at a concert venue featuring popular singers.
Virtual reality content specialized for the domestic market is scheduled to be provided for free through the Oculus Store sequentially after the product launch.
The newly released 'Gear VR' can be purchased at the Samsung Electronics online store (http://store.samsung.com/sec), the online stores of the three major mobile carriers, and about 20 designated Samsung Digital Plazas.
In addition, starting on the 24th, 'Gear VR' experience zones will be operated at the Galaxy Studio in COEX, Samseong-dong, Seoul, and the Galaxy Lounge at Hyundai Department Store Pangyo Branch. From the 27th to the 29th, a 4D virtual reality experience event will also be held on Sangsang Madang Street in Hongdae, where visitors can enjoy 'Gear VR' by riding a simulator bus.
