Citrix Korea and IDG Korea Release Report on Domestic Cloud Usage Status

Citrix (www.citrix.co.kr), a company specializing in virtualization and networking, has released a report in collaboration with market research firm IDG Korea regarding the current status of cloud usage in Korea, the benefits of adoption, and the promotion of smart work.

This report is based on a survey conducted by Citrix Korea and IDG Korea from October 22 to 27, targeting 400 corporate IT managers. According to the results, 60% of companies use the cloud at least partially, and the benefits they gained most from the cloud were efficient collaboration, the establishment of smart work environments, and the operation of flexible IT infrastructure.

The biggest benefits of the cloud are flexible IT operations and smart work—the response is that security is the most necessary.

In addition, the ratio of companies using the cloud to those not using it was 6:4 among all companies. The most common response was that the cloud is used in conjunction with existing IT infrastructure (27.6%), followed by performing only some tasks on the cloud (17.1%) and performing most tasks on the cloud (8.7%). Furthermore, it was found that the larger the company size, the higher the probability of using the cloud. (54.6% adoption for 99 people or fewer, 50% adoption for 100-999 people, 71.8% adoption for 1,000 people or more).

Meanwhile, 156 respondents, accounting for about 40% of the total respondents, expressed a lukewarm or negative stance toward the cloud. The most common reason cited for this attitude was "concerns about storing confidential data outside the company" (32.7%), followed by respondents who answered that "company policies regarding the cloud have not yet been determined" (31.4%).

In response to the question asking what is needed to promote smart work, which was identified as the most significant effect of the cloud, 43% of respondents cited the adoption of a safe and reliable cloud as a priority, while 27.3% responded that they should be able to access the company intranet anytime and anywhere.

Lee Hyung-bong, Director of Technical Sales at Citrix Korea, said, “The importance of the cloud in smart work is growing.” "Considering the number of companies that answered in the report that they plan to adopt the cloud soon, it is expected that more than 8 out of 10 companies will use the cloud within the next 5 years," he said.

He also said, “Many respondents cited security as a prerequisite for the cloud, so all IT managers considering or using cloud infrastructure should design their internal corporate architecture by considering security policies for not only on-premises cloud environments but also the growing number of commercial clouds such as Google Drive and Dropbox.”
