Cable-type secondary battery suitable for wearables selected for patent technology award
Published2015.12.03 18:38On Thursday, the 3rd, at the 2015 second-half Patent Technology Awards ceremony held at the Korea Intellectual Property Center (Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul), the Korean Intellectual Property Office (Commissioner Choi Dong-gyu) selected the 'cable-type secondary battery' jointly invented by Research Fellow Kim Je-young of LG Chem and three others as the recipient of the prestigious King Sejong Award.
This technology is an invention regarding a high-performance, flexible secondary battery using differentiated materials and a creative spiral electrode structure, and is mainly used in wearable devices such as smartwatches, smart glasses, and Bluetooth earphones.
Due to its innovative characteristic of being able to bend freely in three dimensions, it is expected to contribute significantly to the creation of new wearable device markets, including clothing, healthcare, and medical, as well as conventional products.
Since 1992, the Korean Intellectual Property Office and the JoongAng Ilbo have been awarding the Patent Technology Award twice a year, in the first and second halves of the year, to boost the morale of inventors and creators and to spread an atmosphere of invention to the entire nation. The awards consist of the King Sejong Award (1 award), Admiral Yi Sun-sin Award (1 award), Jiseok Award (2 awards), Jeong Yak-yong Award (1 award, in the design field) in the King Sejong category, and the Hong Dae-yong Award (5 awards) in the Hong Dae-yong category.
A total of 170 applications were received for the Patent Technology Award for the second half of this year from August 28 to October 2, showing a high competition rate of 17 to 1 on average. Winners of the Patent Technology Award will receive prize money and, if they wish, will be provided with the opportunity to participate in a systematic startup support program. If the winners of this second half of the year meet the eligibility requirements (founders within 3 years), they will receive benefits such as selection for the Small and Medium Business Administration's customized commercialization support program and exemption from the document screening process when applying to the World Management Institute's Entrepreneurship Academy.
In addition, the winners will be provided with a patent technology award mark to assist with the commercialization marketing of the winning inventions.
