Samsung Electronics won the 'Best of Innovation' award, given to the best product at CES 2016, with its 2016 Smart TV, which further enhanced accessibility.
The 2016 Samsung Smart TV, which won the 'Best Innovation Award,' features various functions such as Amplify, Clear Voice, and Voice Guidance to enable people with disabilities and the elderly to use TV content and information more easily and conveniently.
Samsung Smart TVs minimize inconvenience for users with hearing impairments by featuring 'Amplify,' which improves sound clarity by enhancing high-frequency sound, and 'Clear Voice,' which provides clearer and more distinct voices by adjusting the frequency of voices within the TV.
In addition, when selecting TV programs or content, information such as the title and playback time is displayed on the screen and simultaneously provided via voice guidance. Furthermore, hearing-impaired individuals can use a Bluetooth headset to adjust the volume to their hearing independently of the TV, enabling them to watch TV comfortably alongside the general public.
Features for the visually impaired have also been dramatically improved. The TV screen's graphical user interface (GUI) provides a contrast ratio twice as high as existing products, significantly improving readability.
Samsung Electronics has been working on technology development in cooperation with international expert organizations, such as the Royal National Institute of the Blind in the UK, to improve TV accessibility for the visually and hearing impaired.
"We have made great efforts to improve TV accessibility for people with disabilities, and we are very pleased to receive the CES 'Best Innovation Award'," said Yoo Jun-young, Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business Division. "We plan to continue enabling everyone to enjoy TV easily and conveniently through further improved features."
