Samsung Electronics will unveil its Tizen-based integrated smart TV security solution, "GAIA," for the first time at CES 2016, the world's largest consumer electronics show. Applicable to all 2016 Samsung smart TVs, "GAIA" offers a three-stage security solution encompassing smart TV service, software, and hardware, providing a more secure smart TV experience.

'Gaia' is the mother of all things and goddess of the earth in Greek mythology, and it contains the meaning of infinitely expanding the realm of smart TV based on system security and personal information protection technology.

In particular, as the Internet of Things (IoT) is centered around connecting various smart devices, Samsung Smart TV, which introduces a new TV-centered smart home, has focused on strengthening its security solutions.

For applications requiring a strong level of security, such as IoT services, 'Gaia' runs in a virtual space called 'Secure Zone' that is separate from general applications and cannot be accessed from the outside.

When users use payment services or enter passwords, the 'Secure Keyboard' prevents personal information such as card numbers and passwords from being leaked. It also has its own built-in smart TV antivirus program that continuously monitors for malware activity.

It protects your smart TV with the latest software security technology, including preventing the execution of unauthorized programs that can be used for hacking and detecting arbitrary changes to critical areas of the Tizen OS.

Additionally, based on hardware, Tizen OS is divided into general and security areas to independently protect mutual data, and user authentication information such as public certificates and various encryption key information are stored in the hardware chipset, thereby further strengthening security.
The process of obtaining 'CC certification (Common Criteria),' an international standard security certification, is underway.

'Gaia' is in the process of acquiring 'CC Certification (Common Criteria),' the world's first international standard security certification for TV.
'CC certification' is an international standard established so that each country can evaluate information security systems using common criteria.

Most information security systems used by governments and public institutions require CC certification, which is recognized in 26 countries around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, France, and Germany.
