STMicroelectronics (ST) announced that its high-performance SoC Cannes/Monaco family has been adopted in the newly announced Sky Q set-top box.

Sky Q is Sky's next-generation home entertainment system and is scheduled to be released in early 2016. ST explained that it can wirelessly connect an ecosystem consisting of a product line of advanced products that helps make it easier to access favorite content.

The Cannes/Monaco device is part of ST’s ARM®-based SoC portfolio, which delivers full performance across the HD and UHD markets. This SoC combines an advanced CPU and a powerful GPU, making it suitable for cutting-edge applications such as multi-channel management and advanced transcoding. In addition, ST stated that users can benefit from the support of an extensive ecosystem, enabling support for a diverse range of products that feature high integration, flexibility, power efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
