Participation of over 530 companies from 20 countries, largest booth size

SEMICON Korea 2016, the largest semiconductor manufacturing technology exhibition in Korea, will be held at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul from the 27th to the 29th.

The 29th event, themed “Connect to the Future, Markets, Technology, and People,” features over 530 companies from 20 countries leading the global semiconductor equipment and materials industry participating in a record-breaking 1,870 booths to showcase the latest process technologies, equipment, and materials in the microelectronics field.

The organizers expect a total of over 40,000 semiconductor professionals to attend the exhibition over the three days. The exhibition opens with keynote speeches by three invited speakers from Synopsys, Texas Instruments, and Audi. Under the theme “Innovation: Inventing the Future,” experts from three different fields explore the future of semiconductors.

Aart de Geus of Synopsis will speak on “IoT: from Silicon to Software,” Ahmad Bahai, CTO of Texas Instruments, on “Power Electronics: A more than Moore Perspective,” and Berthold Hellenthal of Audi on “Inventing the Automotive Future.”

"Domestic Companies Account for 60%, Status of Korean Semiconductors Grows"

"The fact that domestic companies account for 60% of the total number of domestic and foreign exhibitors at this exhibition indicates that the scale of the Korean semiconductor industry has grown and interest from overseas companies has increased," said Cho Hyun-dae, President of SEMI Korea (pictured). "Accordingly, this event aims to strengthen the status of the Korean semiconductor industry, present a new application roadmap, provide the latest semiconductor technology and market information, and offer a global business platform."

In addition to product exhibitions by semiconductor equipment and materials companies, various programs will be prepared at Semicon Korea 2016. Through technology forums, seminars, and conferences, 97 papers will be presented over a total of 60 hours, and various business consultations will be provided to offer opportunities for exhibitors to expand overseas.

The SEMI Technology Symposium (STS) identifies the latest technology trends in semiconductor manufacturing processes and presents the direction of next-generation semiconductor technology in the fields of lithography, interconnection, devices, etching, cleaning and CMP, and packaging. Speakers at the symposium participate from GlobalFoundries, Toshiba, Samsung Electronics, Sony, Qualcomm, Toyota, Imec, IBM, SK Hynix, STMicroelectronics, and others.

The purchasing consultation meeting organizes purchasing consultations between overseas component manufacturers (Toshiba and Sony participating) and equipment manufacturers (AMAT and Lam Research participating) to support new business cooperation with domestic companies participating in the exhibition.

Market seminars are also attracting significant interest. Business programs have been organized where attendees can access the latest market data provided by specialized semiconductor market research firms, including VLSI Research, TechSet, Gartner, IHS, and SEMI. Additionally, SEMI International Standards Conferences (HB-LED, I&C, FPD Metrology) will be held to strengthen the global competitiveness of the domestic semiconductor, LED, and FPD sectors.

Meanwhile, LED Korea 2016 will be held concurrently with Semicon Korea 2016 during the same period. An LED technology conference introducing the latest technical perspectives on LED chip manufacturing and applications will be held on January 28.
