The Korea Tourism Organization's Seoul Center signed a business agreement for "Enjoy Mobile Korea."
SK Telecom, in partnership with the Korea Tourism Organization and Samsung Electronics, will promote Korea as a mobile powerhouse to foreign tourists visiting the country.
SK Telecom, the Korea Tourism Organization, and Samsung Electronics signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 26th at the Korea Tourism Organization Seoul Center to promote the 'Enjoy Mobile Korea' project, which provides Korea's advanced mobile communication services and Korean tourism information services free of charge to foreigners visiting Korea. The signing ceremony was attended by Yoon Won-young, Executive Director of the Lifestyle Value Division at SK Telecom, Choi Jong-hak, Executive Director of the National Tourism Headquarters at the Korea Tourism Organization, and Kim Jin-hae, Executive Director of the Mobile Sales Team at Samsung Electronics Korea.
Through this agreement, ▲SK Telecom will provide unlimited domestic voice calls and text messages, as well as 1GB of free data per day, to foreigners experiencing "Enjoy Mobile Korea." ▲Korea Tourism Organization will provide a foreign language tourism information mobile app (Visitkorea) that provides regional/theme-based tourism information, foreign language maps, location-based route-finding services, discount coupons, and more. ▲Samsung Electronics will provide 300 of the latest smartphones for free rental.
Benefits will be provided to 250 people per week, with an expected 12,000 foreign visitors to Korea benefiting annually.
Foreigners visiting Korea who wish to participate in the 'Enjoy Mobile Korea' experience can apply on the dedicated page of the Korea Tourism Foreign Language Information Site (visitkorea.or.kr) starting from the end of February. Foreigners who are finally selected through screening will be able to receive information on various benefits, including smartphone rentals, at the SK Telecom Roaming Center on the first floor of Incheon International Airport.
Foreign visitors to Korea who experience "Enjoy Mobile Korea" can rent a device for up to five days. With 250 foreign visitors to Korea participating each week, it's expected that approximately 12,000 people will benefit annually.
SK Telecom, the Korea Tourism Organization, and Samsung Electronics plan to expand the content of 'Enjoy Mobile Korea' in the future, focusing on areas that foreign visitors to Korea are interested in, such as movies, dramas, music, fashion, and beauty.
SK Telecom’s Lifestyle Value Division Director Won-young Yoon said, “We decided to participate in this ‘Enjoy Mobile Korea’ project to introduce the charm of Korean tourism to foreign visitors to Korea and provide them with an opportunity to experience Korea’s advanced IT technology,” adding, “We believe that foreign visitors to Korea will have positive memories of Korea through the highest quality service experience.”

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.

ETRI Develops 200Gbps Photodetector… Initiates Localization of Optical Receivers for AI Data Centers
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has developed a photodetector device that processes optical signals of approximately 200Gbps per channel for the first time in Korea. This device is a component that converts optical signals into electrical signals and determines the reception performance of AI data centers and 5G/6G communication networks. ETRI achieved bandwidth of 70GHz or higher and optical responsivity of 0.75A/W or higher, and integrated an indium phosphide lens on the rear of the chip to enhance optical reception efficiency and alignment convenience. The technology was presented at OECC 2025 and was recently published in the international academic journal 'Optics Express'.

SKT and Ericsson Expand Joint Research on AI Networks… Preparing for 6G Beyond 5G Advancement
SK Telecom and Ericsson are expanding AI-based mobile network collaboration. On the 19th, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding covering 5G advancement through 6G standardization, and agreed to undertake joint research and verification in the areas of AI-RAN, open and autonomous networks, security, and future communication technologies. This collaboration is interpreted as a move to enhance current 5G operational efficiency while preparing for a 6G environment where AI becomes embedded throughout the network. SKT Receives International Standard for AI Data Center Interconnection Structure… Establishes Operating System Standards
SK Telecom's proposed AI data center interworking architecture has received final approval as an international standard at the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) conference. The core of this standard is the classification of AI data centers into three layers—service, management, and infrastructure—and the organization of signaling requirements between layers. As AI service proliferation increases the importance of interworking among various systems within data centers such as computation, power, cooling, storage, and security, this standard is significant in that it presents a common architecture for operations and service delivery. SK Telecom stated that it initiated the relevant standardization project in 2024 and achieved this approval following approximately two years of discussion.
