Diversification of security solution utilization, Internet of Security Things (IoST), and image quality innovation cited

Axis Communications announced today that it is strengthening its efforts to target not only the large-scale video system market, which has been its existing core market, but also the small and medium-sized video system market through the launch of a variety of high-quality intelligent network security solutions.

In addition, Axis Korea identified the diversification of security solution applications, the Internet of Security Things (IoST), and image quality innovation as trends in the intelligent video surveillance market for 2016. In particular, it emphasized that intelligent video solutions can be actively utilized not only for security or surveillance purposes but also to obtain information necessary for business operations.

Axis stated that its existing strategy to solidify its position as a leader in the intelligent video surveillance market through the development of innovative products remains valid. Since introducing the first network camera to the market in 1996, Axis has firmly maintained its leadership position, recognized for its high-quality products and technological capabilities.

In addition, Axis announced that it will provide a high-quality end-to-end video surveillance solution that offers hardware, software, and quality assurance all at once for companies looking to build medium-sized video surveillance systems this year. We plan to expand our market by targeting the segment in line with the trend where not only public and large corporations but also mid-sized and small organizations are increasingly recognizing the advantages of network video surveillance solutions and seeking to adopt them.

Furthermore, given that the enterprise-grade large-scale system market is already widely populated with IP-based video surveillance systems, Axis plans to target this segment by upgrading existing large-scale security and surveillance solutions. Through its open platform, Axis supports the seamless integration of Axis products with various software and IT infrastructure from Axis partners, enabling customers to build complete network security systems.

Diversification of Security Solution Applications: Axis predicted that the role of network video surveillance solutions will not be limited to security but will be utilized in various fields in the future. With the recent advancement of intelligent video analysis solutions enabling the collection and analysis of more sophisticated and accurate information, interest in creating business opportunities by leveraging network video solutions is growing. Therefore, it is anticipated that technology will evolve in the future to support efficient business operations, enhanced security, and cost reduction by analyzing information obtained from network video surveillance solutions. Due to advancements in video and audio analysis technologies, video surveillance systems, which were previously used primarily for passive observation and post-incident response, are expected to transform into active systems capable of intelligent cognition, situational awareness, and analysis.

Internet of Security Things (IoST): The Internet of Security Things is a concept first introduced by Axis last year, referring to the utilization of devices connected to IP networks within the physical security domain. Information collected and exchanged by devices connected to IP networks can be used in various fields beyond just security purposes. A wide range of devices, including not only network cameras but also smoke and gas sensors, access control panels, and network speakers, can be utilized in the Internet of Security Things. To lead this trend, Axis has been showcasing various devices for building the Internet of Security Things since the second half of last year, including network cameras, network speakers, and door stations. The company plans to continue supporting customers in building more comprehensive network security systems through the launch of diverse products this year.

Image Quality Innovation: There has always been a demand for high-quality images. Therefore, innovation and technological development for high-quality video are essential. As video quality improves, the storage capacity required also increases, leading to a corresponding rise in the demand for video compression technology. In response, Axis has introduced Zipstream, an intelligent video compression algorithm, to the market. Zipstream automatically analyzes video to significantly compress unnecessary parts while storing critical sections in high definition, enabling high-quality video surveillance while reducing storage requirements by more than 50%.
