Up to 60% TCO savings compared to public cloud

EMC Korea has released the enterprise object storage 'EMC ECS' 2.2. Through this, EMC is strengthening its SDS (software-defined storage) portfolio and reinforcing its leadership in the object storage market.

EMC's ECS solution is a multi-purpose storage optimized for the third-generation platform environment, including mobile, cloud, big data, and social networks, and can save total cost of ownership (TCO) compared to using public cloud services while taking advantage of the convenience of the cloud. In addition to excellent efficiency and elasticity, it can easily build a cloud service infrastructure without additional management burden through automatic data tiering, multi-tenancy, etc.


In particular, the recently announced ECS 2.2 can be introduced as dedicated hardware or installed as software on existing general-purpose storage, making it significant in EMC's SDS portfolio. ECS features ▶ high cost-effectiveness with lower TCO than public clouds, ▶ unified storage management with multi-protocol support, ▶ third-generation platform-tailored functions such as IoT (Internet of Things) application development, ▶ data protection and global regulatory compliance functions through encryption and support.

Lower TCO than public cloud – Reduce TCO by reducing storage overhead, including adding cold data management systems that are less frequently used and increasing management efficiency. With ECS, data access and networking to the public cloud are free, reducing TCO by up to 60% compared to using major public cloud services.

Supports multiple protocols including AWS S3, OpenStack Swift, Hadoop, and NFS

? Unified storage management with multi-protocol support – In addition to supporting various protocols such as AWS’s S3, OpenStack Swift, and Hadoop HDFS, a new gateway-free file access (NFS) function has been added. By managing objects in an integrated manner and distributing them locally, storage silos (the problem of multiple storage devices or data being isolated or distributed) can be prevented. ECS 2.2 is also compatible with various solutions including HortonWorks.

Tailored for the 3rd generation platform – ECS is the only product that enables easy metadata search across billions of objects without a dedicated database. This allows for quick and easy use of the Internet of Things (IoT), mobile application development, geographically distributed data utilization, and big data.

Metadata searchable across exabytes of unstructured data

?Data Protection and Global Compliance - A new feature supporting 'D@RE (Data at Rest)' encryption has been added, allowing companies to safely protect their sensitive data through automated encryption policies. It is also fully compatible with the 'EMC Centera' API, an EMC compliance and archiving solution that provides legal original guarantee functions, and also supports data migration support tools for existing Centera users. It also provides a global content repository function that has been in high demand from customers recently, such as compliance with the 17 a-4(f) of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and 1.31(b)-(c) regulations.
