Element14 is launching the Atmel SAME70-Xplained evaluation kit for the SAME70 general-purpose industrial/consumer microcontroller, which is based on the ARM Cortex-M7 architecture and features an integrated floating-point unit.

The SAME70-XPLD microcontroller evaluation board is compatible with Atmel Studio, Atmel Software Framework (ASF) drivers, and various expansion boards with built-in demo code, and supports features such as data streaming. Additionally, the SAME70-XPLD evaluation board supports Arduino shields, allowing for further expansion.

This kit is intended for engineers who wish to upgrade or migrate from SAM4E microcontrollers, develop industrial control, consumer electronics, or PC peripheral products, or require a high-performance general-purpose ARM Cortex-M7 MCU with built-in integrated floating-point DSP supporting large memory capacities and running at up to 300 MHz. Key applications include lighting, industrial control, consumer electronics, PC peripherals, and robotics.

Each expansion board uses standardized connectors and headers and includes an Atmel CryptoAuthentication™ ID, which can be identified when connected to an Xplained MCU. The information gathered in this way is used to provide user guides, application nodes, datasheets, and example code through Atmel Studio, thereby simplifying the development process and improving efficiency.

All Xplained products include an embedded debugger, allowing you to debug and program microcontrollers without the need for separate tools.

This evaluation kit extends the existing family of solution products for high-end ARM Cortex-M devices of the element14 that require real-time digital signal processing or fast numerical computation. It also supports the Atmel Xplained ecosystem, which includes MCU evaluation boards, Atmel Studio, Atmel Software Framework (ASF) demo code, data streaming support, and other expansion boards that provide the ability to fully evaluate the microcontroller.

In addition, element14 is launching the Atmel® SmartConnect WILC1000 expansion board, equipped with an Atmel ultra-low power IoT module optimized for low-power IoT applications. SmartConnect is an embedded low-power and authenticated module that provides wireless internet capabilities; it is an IEEE 802.11 b/g/n IoT Link controller SoC and an ideal add-on for existing MCU solutions utilizing UART or SPI/SDIO-to-WiFi interfaces. The WILC1000 can connect to any Atmel AVR or SMART MCU while using minimal resources.
