Supports the implementation of new electric and electronic features demanded by GM car buyers

Mentor Graphics Korea (www.mentorkr.com, CEO Yang Young-in) announced that its electrical system design tool, 'Mentor® Capital®', a domain design verification solution for electrical systems and wire harnesses, will be used in General Motors (GM)'s vehicle development projects.

This tool enables General Motors to efficiently implement new electrical and electronic features demanded by car buyers by shortening automotive development time and supporting enhanced engineering processes. This is achieved through the Capital Suite's powerful IP reuse capabilities and correct-by-construction technologies, such as optimized platform implementation and automated wiring functions.

The electric systems for General Motors' upcoming vehicles are currently being developed using Capital tools. Additionally, design data for existing vehicles is being converted for Capital software using utilities developed by Mentor's consulting organization. This allows development infrastructure such as rule decks and libraries to be shared, and enables the rapid application of tools by increasing user familiarity.

In addition, General Motors enables its users to acquire the latest advanced skills through the Mentor Learning Center platform, an online training program provided by Mentor. This access to readily available training resources offers features such as tutorials, hands-on exercises, and knowledge checks, and is designed to suit multiple user profiles.

Like many automakers, General Motors develops vehicles based on multiple core platforms, which are often customized according to local market preferences. While this pattern significantly enhances cost efficiency, it simultaneously requires comprehensive data processing capabilities and compatibility with enterprise IT environments.

Changing the core development environment of the automotive development process can be a massive undertaking. However, during the transition to Mentor Capital, General Motors achieved significant milestones, such as delivering production design data on schedule without any setbacks.
