Minister Joo Hyung-hwan Visits Smart Factory Site and Holds Policy Meeting
Promotion of representative smart factories, demo smart factories, and cloud-based smart factories

On Monday, the 22nd, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Joo Hyung-hwan visited a company site to inspect the progress of the smart factory policy and discuss development plans.

During a visit to Yudo Co., Ltd. (located in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do), an excellent company in building smart factories, Minister Ju stated, “It is very important for small and medium-sized enterprises, which are the foundation of industrial competitiveness, to transform into smart factories in order to achieve the immediate challenges facing our industry: increasing the added value of key industries and creating new alternative industries early.”

Accordingly, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to select representative smart factories, provide intensive support, build demo smart factories, and supply smart factory solutions in the future.

First, "Representative Smart Factories" will be selected in February to provide intensive support for consulting and R&D. The plan is to select representative smart factories from among companies located in major industrial complexes and present them as models that allow small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies to experience smart factory implementation methods and achievements through site visits.

In addition, construction of a “Demo Smart-factory” equipped with cutting-edge technology will begin in April. The Demo Smart-factory is an “open platform” with the flexibility to add and rearrange production lines like Lego blocks, and it is planned to be operated by linking the system with a representative smart factory (Digital Sync).

Finally, the supply service for “cloud-based” smart factory solutions will begin in February. Private telecommunications operators will take the lead in providing cloud services to companies within industrial complexes by establishing communication infrastructure. In this case, numerous companies will be able to use high-quality solutions at affordable prices, and as production information accumulates, the development of various related service industries, such as diagnosis, consulting, and big data analysis services utilizing this data, is expected.

On this day, Minister Ju expressed his intention to provide active policy support and stated that he would actively support technology development and the training of specialized personnel so that the domestic supply industry can evolve into a new growth industry in the rapidly growing smart factory supply industry market, which includes the Internet of Things, robots, and sensors.

Along with this, smart factory standards, certification, We plan to establish institutional infrastructure, such as security standards, to facilitate the voluntary establishment and expansion of smart factories by the private sector.
