KEA Decides to Pursue Key Projects in 'Automotive Convergence, VR, and IoT Convergence Fields'
Published2016.02.26 11:59The Korea Electronics and Information & Communications Industry Association (Chairman Kwon Oh-hyun, hereinafter KEA) is stepping on the pedal to accelerate the convergence of automobiles and IT.
The Association announced that at its 40th regular general meeting to be held at the Electronics Hall in Sangam-dong on the 26th, it has designated the promotion of convergence between automobiles and IT, VR (Virtual Reality), and IoT (Internet of Things) as its main business and plans to actively pursue it this year.
To this end, we plan to establish an Automotive IT Convergence Support Center within the KEA, foster a collaborative ecosystem aimed at discovering new business models for automotive IT convergence between the domestic automotive industry (including finished vehicles and parts) and the electronics and IT industries, and support smartification initiatives such as autonomous driving.
KEA is fully operating the Electronic IoT Collaboration Center (Sangam IO Center), which opened last September, and is supporting the development of new business models between large and small businesses based on the convergence of new technologies such as IoT and VR.
As the secretariat for the Sensibility Subcommittee of the Automotive Convergence Alliance, which is currently receiving active government support, we operate working groups for specific sub-sectors (cloud, connectivity, emotional tuning, etc.) and have launched the Automotive IT Convergence Council to promote support projects for institutional improvements related to R&D planning and standardization response.
In addition, to lead the next-generation home appliance and IoT market, we have secured government funding to fully operate the Electronics IoT Collaboration Center (Sangam IO Center), which opened last September, and [establish] a foundation for the convergence of new technologies such as IoT and VR.We plan to support new business model development projects among small and medium-sized enterprises.
On this day, along with the regular general meeting, the IoT Collaboration Center demonstrated its new electronic industry collaboration projects, including the implementation of a smart home based on Samsung Artik and LG HomeChat, IoT platform training, VR technology, and high-performance 3D printed products.
Meanwhile, at the regular general meeting, Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Kwon Oh-hyun was re-elected by the industry to lead the KEA for another three years. As he takes on the role of the 18th chairman, he plans to overcome the crisis in the electronics industry by focusing on improving the organization's fundamental structure through the development of new business models to prepare for the future amidst difficult economic conditions.

IT 시장 분석 및 컨설팅 기관인 IDC(www.idc.com)의 전망에 따르면, 2016년 중국 VR(Virtual Reality: 가상현실) 디바이스 시장이 DeePoon, ANTVR, 3Glasses 등 중국 VR 업체의 성장에 힘입어 출하량이 전년대비 476% 증가한 48만대에 이를 것으로 예측된다. 현재 이들 VR 기업들은 하드웨어 및 장비에서 부터 소프트웨어 에코시스템을 아우르는 장기 플랜을 공표하고 있다. 뿐만 아니라, Oculus, HTC, Sony와 같은 주요 글로벌 VR 업체들도 2016년 부터 제품 출시를 시작한다고 발표했다.
