If parents living alone or elderly people living alone do not open the refrigerator for 12 hours

LG Uplus partners with Samsung Electronics to introduce differentiated IoT-based home appliances.

LG Uplus, a leader in the domestic home IoT market, announced that it will launch a smart home refrigerator integrated with a silver care IoT platform in collaboration with Samsung Electronics.

The IoT platform-based silver care service is a feature that determines it is an emergency situation if the refrigerator door is not opened for more than 12 hours and notifies the registered user that there is no history of refrigerator usage. This feature utilizes the behavior of users who generally need to open the refrigerator door at least once within 12 hours to consume food or beverages such as water, and is expected to be highly useful for the elderly who require attention and care, such as parents living alone or seniors living alone.

To this end, the two companies integrated LG Uplus’s IoT@home app with Samsung Electronics’ Smart Home app, enabling customers to check information such as refrigerator temperature, monthly and daily door opening counts, and refrigerator filter replacement cycles via smartphone.

The newly launched service is available on all eight types of Samsung Smart Home-supported refrigerators.

Starting with the launch of refrigerators, LG Uplus plans to sequentially release home appliances equipped with IoT features, such as air conditioners, air purifiers, and robot vacuums, in collaboration with Samsung Electronics through this month. IoT appliances can be purchased at Samsung dealerships nationwide, and users can access them simply by installing the LG Uplus IoT@home application.
