Membership discount benefits are automatically provided upon payment.

SK Telecom announced on the 15th the launch of "T Pay," an offline mobile payment service that combines membership discounts with mobile micropayments. "T Pay" significantly simplifies the payment process at offline stores, allowing customers to enjoy T Membership discounts simultaneously with payment through a single T Membership or T Pay app, significantly enhancing customer convenience.

In particular, "T Pay" allows for small-sum mobile payments, allowing users to use the service without credit cards or cash. Signing up and using the service eliminates the need to enter card or account information on your smartphone, allowing for convenient use without worrying about financial information leaks. Payments are added to the following month's telecommunications bill.

Two ways to pay: hands-free and barcode scanning.

'T Pay' can be used in two ways: 'hands-free payment' using Bluetooth technology and 'barcode scanning' through T Membership or a dedicated app.

First, SK Telecom has applied a 'hands-free' method that allows customers to make payments without taking out their smartphones by installing BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) wireless communication-based payment technology that it has researched and developed in-house in 'T Pay'.

When a customer approaches the store's checkout counter, the smartphone and the store's point-of-sale (POS) device exchange customer authentication and payment information via short-range wireless communication. After the clerk verifies the customer's identity (last 4 digits of phone number or nickname), the customer completes the payment by simply entering the password (4 digits) on the signature pad.

If you do not use the 'hands-free payment' method, you can use 'T Pay' simply by scanning the barcode installed in the app.

Application of barcode technology for safe management of payment information

SK Telecom has applied One Time Barcode technology, which changes to a new form every three minutes, to 'T Pay' to safely manage payment information and has also done its utmost to protect customer information, such as encrypting all communication sections related to payment.

T Pay is available for Android phones via the T Pay or T Membership apps, and SK Telecom plans to offer an iPhone version in the first half of the year. T Pay can also be used at over 11,000 T Membership-affiliated stores, including 7-Eleven, Ministop, Lotteria, TGIF, Outback Steakhouse, and Coco Bruni. SK Telecom plans to expand T Pay partnerships to approximately 20,000 stores nationwide, including CU, Tous Les Jours, and VIPS, within the first half of the year.

SK Telecom’s Yoon Won-young, head of the Lifestyle Value Division, said, “While existing payment services have focused only on convenience, ‘T Pay’ is a service that also takes care of customer benefits,” and added, “In addition to the launch of ‘T Pay,’ we will continue to introduce lifestyle value platform products and services that provide both convenience and benefits in various areas of customers’ lives.”
