Bosch Introduces Digital Collaboration System to Product Development Process

Siemens PLM Software's integrated CAD (Computer-Aided Design), PDM (Product Data Management), and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) solution will be introduced to replace the existing system used by the Electric Drives business unit of the German automotive parts supplier Bosch. Starting in the summer of 2016, Siemens PLM Software's NX software and Teamcenter software are planned to be used as a common development platform within the business unit's global operations.

Bosch has been using Siemens' CAD/PDM/PLM software across other business units for many years. The decision to expand this to the Electric Drives business unit is part of a strategic plan to integrate the current fragmented tooling configuration based on a unified methodology for modeling, design, and collaboration. The size of the contract was not disclosed.

Bosch's adoption of Siemens software is expected to help achieve the goal of optimizing the value chain of the Electric Drives business unit based on the modular toolkit concept. Furthermore, it is anticipated to serve as a foundation for digital collaboration between different business units throughout the entire product development process.

The process accelerates the speed of innovation and shortens time-to-market schedules.
Industry 4.0 Strategy Support

Bosch has been able to enjoy economies of scale more clearly through improved standardization and the introduction of new features. The digital end-to-end process to be introduced by Bosch will accelerate the pace of innovation, shorten time-to-market, and provide broader support for the Industry 4.0 strategy. This is expected to further strengthen the market competitiveness of Bosch, based in Stuttgart, Germany.

NX, Siemens PLM Software's integrated CAD/CAM/CAE solution, is intended to be used to establish and optimize an integrated product development environment. Additionally, Teamcenter, a comprehensive digital lifecycle management solution, supports rapid and convenient access to information, enabling quick evaluations and decision-making based on accurate data, as well as allowing proven success stories to be adapted for the company. These solutions provide a platform for a wide range of development tasks, ranging from window lifts, seat adjusters, sliding roofs, handle controls, anti-theft devices, and lift gate drives to motors, fan modules, cooling pumps for motor cooling systems, front and rear wiper systems, and drive motors for electric scooters and bicycles for ABS and electronic stability control systems.
