Samsung Electronics showcased core UHD broadcasting technologies based on ATSC 3.0 with major domestic companies including MBC, the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), DS Broadcast, and KAI Media.



We demonstrated the entire process of encoding and transmitting video captured by a UHD resolution camera in real time, as well as receiving it through an SUHD TV, based on ATSC 3.0, and then demonstrated transmitting a UHD broadcast signal while simultaneously transmitting a Full HD signal, and switching the channels between the two broadcasts on a TV that received the signal.

In addition, MMT (MPEG Media Transport) technology, a core technology for real-time live broadcasting without time lag such as sports matches, was also introduced. MMT technology is a technology that splits large volume broadcast signals into packets and simultaneously receives and decodes a single packet encoded for transmission to enable fast streaming transmission and reception.

Subsequently, an Electronic Program Guide (EPG) service was introduced, allowing users to view not only the currently airing and upcoming programs but also replay past broadcasts.

Ahead of the domestic UHD broadcasting era scheduled for early next year, Samsung Electronics successfully completed the first UHD broadcasting transmission and reception test broadcasts in Korea with the three major terrestrial broadcasters from last year to March of this year.
