Utilizing Disaster Recovery Center resources even during normal times saves nearly 2.5 billion won in costs compared to traditional disaster recovery.

EMC Korea (CEO Kim Kyung-jin) has completed the 'Enterprise Disaster Recovery System Enhancement' project for Mirae Asset Life Insurance (CEO Choi Hyun-man). Based on EMC's disaster recovery solutions and integrated infrastructure, Mirae Asset Life Insurance established an enterprise-wide data lossless disaster recovery environment.

Mirae Asset Life Insurance selected EMC Korea as its project partner and completed the project to respond to recently strengthened disaster recovery regulations for the non-bank financial sector, increase data center utilization, and implement a disaster recovery environment for enterprise data.

Mirae Asset Life Insurance cited EMC Korea's experience accumulated from numerous implementation cases in the financial sector and its proven 'point-in-time recovery solution' as the reasons for selecting the partner. It was also added that during the preliminary consulting phase, they thoroughly understood the business characteristics of the insurance industry and accurately analyzed the disaster recovery environment to propose cost-effective solutions.

For this project, EMC Korea established an integrated infrastructure for the disaster recovery environment using the 'EMC DataDomain' backup appliance and 'EMC VNX' unified storage, and provided 'EMC RecoverPoint,' a data replication and point-in-time recovery solution. EMC RecoverPoint is an industry-leading Continuous Data Protection (CDP) solution that is a real-time disaster recovery solution capable of capturing data tracks to restore data to any point in the past. It plays a key role in enabling data loss-free recovery in the event of a disaster by not only reducing the time required for data restoration but also allowing for the flexible designation of recovery points.

In order to replicate large amounts of data to a remote location, it is necessary to secure data transmission lines that require high investment costs. However, in this project, bandwidth was reduced by utilizing compression and deduplication technologies provided by EMC RecoverPoint, and the construction was completed without additional lines based on existing lines, contributing to cost reduction and enabling a disaster recovery environment with a transmission bandwidth that is about one-tenth of that of traditional block-based data replication.

In this project, which took place over approximately six months, Mirae Asset Life Insurance established a disaster recovery environment across all enterprise data, including accounting and business support systems, and after completion, conducted simulated drills to prepare for actual disaster situations to ensure perfect transition to customer services. As a result of the simulation, a full transition to the disaster recovery center was achieved within two hours of a disaster, securing a Recovery Time Objective (RTO) faster than the financial supervisory authority's guidelines. A Recovery Point Objective (RPO) was also achieved within seconds, creating a 'lossless data' environment.

Meanwhile, the resources of the newly established disaster recovery center, such as storage and servers, are designed to operate in a development environment during normal times and immediately switch to a disaster recovery environment in the event of a failure or disaster. This maximizes resource utilization while saving nearly 2.5 billion won over five years compared to traditional disaster recovery methods.
