ON Semiconductor Launches High-Performance Voice Capture System-on-Chip (SoC), BelaSigna® R261
A drop-in solution that manages the acoustic environment to improve voice clarity in portable consumer electronics applications.
– ON Semiconductor (Country Manager: Jong-Duck Lee), a leading provider of high-performance silicon solutions for energy-efficient electronics, has announced the BelaSigna® R261. This complete system-on-chip (SoC) solution for portable consumer electronics integrates a highly optimized digital signal processor (DSP) with an advanced dual microphone noise reduction algorithm to improve voice clarity in noisy environments while maintaining the naturalness of the voice.
In applications such as smartphones, the BelaSigna® R261 eliminates noise from microphone signals while enhancing voice quality, allowing users to clearly hear the other party's voice in standard handset mode. During conference calls, the BelaSigna® R261 enables the identification and distinction of conversation content within a range of up to 6 meters, shielding it from ambient noise within a 360-degree range. Therefore, it remarkably improves voice clarity even when the user is not standing right next to the microphone or is at a distance, allowing users to make calls while moving freely.
This SoC is a highly integrated chip containing a DSP, regulator, phase-locked loop (PLL), level translator, and memory, reducing the Bill of Materials (BOM) compared to other solutions. Since this integrated algorithm is adjustable to user requirements, the balance of required characteristics between noise reduction and voice quality can be tailored to each specific application. Using this complete solution minimizes design time and engineering effort, as design teams do not need to design interface networks or develop or adopt algorithms separately.
The BelaSigna® R261 SoC connects directly to the microphone input of a digital microphone interface (DMIC) or baseband chip. This offers the advantage of operating with inexpensive omnidirectional microphones for cost-sensitive OEM designs and allows for microphone placement in various locations. Additionally, since a production line for adjusting microphones is not required, further time and costs can be saved.
This new SoC takes up significantly less board area compared to competing solutions.
