18 teams with 36 Korean representative students to participate as Korea representatives at Intel ISEF held in the US from May 8-13
Plans to present outstanding creativity and research achievements in environmental, life sciences, computer science, chemistry, and physics fields

Intel Korea (President Kwon Myung-suk) announced that a total of 18 teams comprising 36 Korean student representatives (see attachment) will participate in the 67th Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (hereinafter Intel ISEF) to be held at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona, USA from May 8 to 13.

The delegation selection was conducted through institutional screening by a total of four organizations: the National Museum of Korea (Director Kim Ju-han), the Korea Science and Creativity Foundation (Chairman Kim Seung-hwan), the Korea Information Society Development Institute (Director Seo Byung-jo), and the Korea Science and Technology Support Unit (Director Oh Chang-ho). The selected students conducted research projects in diverse fields including environmental engineering, biotechnology, computer science, robotics, physics, and chemistry to address major issues in real-world applications, and were honored to be selected as Korean representatives after receiving recognition for their outstanding creativity and in-depth scientific inquiry achievements.



The Korean student delegation participated in 1-3 educational camps operated by each institution since February, receiving advice from international science competition experts, professors, and teachers, and sharing competition experiences with previous participants, thereby advancing their research projects through various processes. Additionally, through the launch ceremony and final educational camp conducted at the National Museum of Korea for two days from April 30, they conducted actual practice runs for the main competition including English presentations and question-and-answer sessions.

Intel ISEF, a festival of aspiring young scientists from around the world who will lead future science, is the world's largest-scale science competition that supports students in developing ideas in diverse scientific fields. This year's event will attract 1,760 students from 77 countries worldwide, and each team's project will undergo objective evaluation by a panel of experts in their respective fields comprising Nobel Prize laureates and Intel Fellows. Winning or award-winning teams are provided with various benefits including scholarships exceeding 4 million dollars total, internships, and special admission privileges to prestigious US universities.

Meanwhile, Korean students have consistently achieved excellent results at Intel ISEF while competing with global talents. In 2008, Kim Dong-young from Minjok Leadership Academy and in 2011, Seo Jin-young and Shin Dong-joo from Korea Science Academy were invited to the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony after winning the SIYSS Award, which corresponds to 3rd place overall in the competition. In 2015, Kang Sun-woo from Cheungsim International High School won 2nd place in the Earth and Environment Services category (prize money $1,500), and a team of An Yu-jin, Um Hye-rim, and Lee Su-yeon from Jangan High School in Busan won 3rd place from the ADA (American Dental Association) Foundation (prize money $500), while Hwang Hee-sun from Changwon Science High School won 4th place in the Biology category ($500).

Kwon Myung-suk, President of Intel Korea, stated, "With many research topics that are creative yet practical in solving real-world problems, I expect Korean students to demonstrate significant achievements at this year's Intel ISEF main competition," and added, "Intel will continue to conduct various educational programs to foster global scientific talent to lead the future of the Republic of Korea, while also collaborating closely with the government and domestic institutions."
