Korea's largest information and communication technology (ICT) exhibition, 'World IT Show 2016' (hereinafter 'World IT Show'), opens on Tuesday, the 17th, at COEX in Seoul for a four-day run.

'World IT Show 2016', hosted by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, is an event held at the ABC Hall of COEX in Seoul from Tuesday, the 17th to Friday, the 20th. It is the largest domestic ICT exhibition, now in its ninth year, which integrates existing IT exhibitions with the purpose of promoting domestic ICT technology overseas, leading ICT trends, and revitalizing industrial business.

The opening ceremony, which will begin at 11 a.m., will be attended by figures from various sectors, including Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Choi Yang-hee and the head of the organizing agency.

This year, under the theme 'Connect Everything,' a hyper-connected world connected by ICT, representative ICT services and products from 452 domestic and international companies, including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, SKT, KT, Kia Motors, and Qualcomm, will be showcased across 1,498 booths in five sectors: mobile (including compatible devices such as VR products), IT convergence technologies such as IoT and smart cars, IT services and equipment in cloud computing and big data, software and digital content, O2O services, and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and industrial electronics.

Leading domestic conglomerates are showcasing their latest products and solutions. Samsung Electronics is displaying products such as SUHD TVs, SERIF TVs, the S7, and the Gear 360, which is being introduced in Korea for the first time; LG Electronics is exhibiting new products such as OLED TVs, digital signage, and the G5; KT is displaying 5G, VR, drones, and IoT; and Kia Motors is allowing visitors to experience the Soul 'Virtual Reality (VR) Simulator' and is also exhibiting the new car 'Niro'.

SK Telecom is showcasing smart platform services and 5G communication technology, and together with the startup company 'Hello Factory', it is implementing an 'IoT Restaurant' within the exhibition hall that utilizes Beacon Bell to allow visitors to experience everything from ordering menus to enjoying various cultural content.

Visitors can also see a variety of new products from domestic and international ICT SMEs. These include Powercube Co., Ltd.’s electric vehicle cable charger, which was unveiled for the first time in the world last year; C-Saw’s 360-degree camera and editing solution; Vernect’s Orial Glass, which allows for convenient viewing of 360-degree video; and PLK Technology’s product utilizing ADAS technology, an essential technology for autonomous vehicles.

This year, various programs have been prepared to expand practical business opportunities among participating companies and between industry and academia, and the scale of the exhibition has also been expanded.

On the first day of the event, Tuesday the 17th, the 'Security Conference,' where information security issues are shared and new technology cases are presented, will be held for the first time alongside 'Security Korea 2016,' and the 'K-ICT Network Co-prosperity Development Council,' which will serve as a venue to explore strengthening the competitiveness of the domestic network equipment industry and developing the related ecosystem, will also take place.The quo; will also be newly held.

On the 18th (Wed), the 'K-ICT Technology Commercialization Festival,' which transfers government-supported R&D technology to the private sector and provides consultation opportunities for those seeking technology commercialization, and the 'WIS Global ICT Trend Insights' conference, in which the GSMA (Global Mobile Communications Association) participates to share global hot issues of 2016 and forecast future business, will be unveiled. On the 19th (Thu), the 'International Conference on Intelligent Information Technology,' which aims to promote the revitalization of the intelligent information industry and spread awareness by sharing advanced research trends and future outlooks in the field of intelligent information technology, will make its debut.

Programs will also be implemented to strengthen the exhibition's B2B capabilities and to facilitate the practical overseas expansion of participating companies and promote inter-company exchanges.

In Hall A of the exhibition hall, the 'Export Consultation Meeting' (17th), organized by the Korea International Trade Association and inviting 20 overseas buyers, and the 'WIS New Technology/New Product Presentation' (20th), where six participating companies introduce new technologies and products, will be held. Additionally, the 'Global ICT Partnership Program,' which helps 28 overseas telecommunications companies and domestic ICT firms build B2B partnerships, exchange technology, and enter overseas markets, will be held on the 19th (Thu) and 20th (Fri).

In addition, the 'ITRC Forum,' which shares research technologies to promote and revitalize technology exchange among university ICT research centers, and the 'CPRC ICT Policy Conference' (on the 18th), which discusses current policy issues and topics in the ICT field, will also be held.
In addition, on the first day, the 17th, the 'Korea Multimedia Technology Awards Ceremony,' which annually discovers and awards outstanding technologies and products in the ICT field, will be held starting at 3:00 PM, and a total of nine awards, including the Presidential Award, the Prime Minister's Award, and the Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Award, are scheduled to be presented.

Jeong Yong-hwan, Vice Chairman of the Korea Information and Communications Promotion Association, the organizer of the 'World IT Show,' stated, "We expect many corporate officials to visit the 'World IT Show' again this year, which has been steadily growing every year, and we are making our best efforts to fulfill our role as the nation's largest ICT marketplace." The exhibition period from the 17th (Tue) to the 19th (Thu) is designated as a 'Business Day' to facilitate smooth consultation and exchange between exhibitors and buyers, and entry is restricted for high school students and younger students and children, but on the 20th (Fri) 'Public Day', everyone can view the exhibition.
