Home temperature control in apartments/buildings becomes possible via the IoT@home app

LG Uplus, a leader in domestic home IoT services, is partnering with Honeywell Korea, the country's No. 1 thermostat supplier, to develop an IoT thermostat.

LG Uplus (Vice Chairman Kwon Young-soo) and Honeywell Korea (CEO Hong Soon-ho) announced on the 22nd that they have signed a business agreement to develop an indoor temperature control and monitoring system using IoT technology.

Honeywell Korea is the Korean subsidiary of Honeywell, a global company that has been providing solutions in various industrial sectors since its establishment in 1984, ranging from home and building automation systems, factory control systems, and security to aerospace, turbo business, specialty chemicals, and plastics business.



LG Uplus and Honeywell Korea will build a system that remotely monitors and controls indoor temperatures by linking an IoT platform to thermostats installed as built-in units in residential spaces such as apartments or buildings, or in office spaces.

Starting in the second half of this year, the two companies plan to supply IoT thermostats to newly constructed small and medium-sized apartments, officetels, and office buildings to establish smart residential and office spaces, and will also jointly pursue the development of intelligent IoT services that automatically set the optimal indoor temperature based on the outside temperature without user control.

In addition, through this partnership, an integrated home energy management service will be established by expanding the combination of sensor technologies and products held by Honeywell across various industrial sectors, including thermostats.

Choi Ki-soon, Vice President of Honeywell Korea’s Environmental Control Business Unit, said, “Through this agreement, we expect significant synergy in the high-growth home IoT market by providing Honeywell’s control technology and LG Uplus’s IoT solutions together.”

Meanwhile, LG Uplus's home IoT service has surpassed 300,000 households just 10 months after its launch, leading the domestic IoT market.

LG Uplus is expanding its IoT service partnerships across all industries, including IoT thermostats, boilers, officetels, smart home systems (such as video phones), electronics manufacturers (LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Cuchen), and furniture companies, so this subscriber growth is expected to accelerate further. Recently, the company has been rapidly expanding its home appliance lineup beyond refrigerators and air purifiers to include robot vacuum cleaners and rice cookers.

LG Uplus expects to integrate more than 30 types of services into its home IoT platform in the first half of the year alone, and anticipates that IoT services will be installed in 500,000 households by the end of this year.
