Vice Minister Choi Jeong-ho Emphasizes “Necessity of Technology Development for Autonomous Vehicle Components”
Visit to Hyundai Mobis Autonomous Vehicle Research Site , Received Temporary Operation Permit

On the 3rd, Choi Jeong-ho, the 2nd Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, visited Hyundai Mobis’ Mabuk Research Center, which became the first automotive parts company to receive a temporary permit for autonomous vehicle operation, and was introduced to the current status of research and development related to autonomous vehicles that the center is focusing on.

Vice Minister Choi Jeong-ho offered words of encouragement at a meeting attended by Hyundai Mobis Vice President Jeong Seung-gyun and research institute officials, stating, “I thank those who have worked hard for technology development to make Hyundai Mobis what it is today.”



In particular, Vice Minister Choi Jeong-ho personally boarded a vehicle capable of automatic parking and watched it park itself, saying, “At the recent Ministerial Meeting on Regulatory Reform, it was decided to abolish the speed limit for automatic command steering functions to support the development of remote autonomous parking for self-driving cars, and I hope that these government efforts will be helpful to companies' technological development.”

In addition, Vice Minister Choi Jeong-ho stated, “For autonomous vehicles to be commercialized in Korea, localization through securing technology for core components is necessary,” and promised, “The government will provide active support through measures such as expanding R&D for technology development.”
