Lenovo (http://www.lenovo.com/) announced that it is significantly expanding its IT solutions to strengthen its presence in the $87 billion data center market[1]. The expanded solutions include next-generation Software Defined Storage (SDS), enterprise networking products, the latest high-performance servers, and an enhanced family of hyperconverged appliances.

Through a more diversified portfolio, Lenovo has not only laid the foundation for growth in the next-generation IT market but has also strengthened its capabilities to help customers innovate data centers by embracing emerging data utilization and delivery models, such as cloud-based infrastructure and big data analytics solutions. Lenovo plans to unveil its new data center solutions at Lenovo TechWorld, to be held in San Francisco, USA, on June 9.
Through these new products, Lenovo is demonstrating its capability to provide top-tier solutions free from legacy technology and investment burdens by collaborating with industry leaders and startups possessing cutting-edge technology. Lenovo's diversified portfolio provides enhanced flexibility, enabling customers to break free from the limitations of existing technologies and adopt solutions suitable for evolving IT environments and business scenarios.

New Software Defined Storage Solutions (SDS) and Next-Generation SAN

Lenovo has launched 'StorSelect,' a new SDS appliance program. StoSelect is a packaged product supplied as a turnkey appliance that combines SDS software from industry-leading independent software vendors (ISVs) with Lenovo's hardware. Through this integrated appliance, which offers Lenovo's end-to-end support, scalable storage solutions can be deployed reliably and simply. The Lenovo Storage DX8200N and DX8200C, the first products in the StoSelect series, feature SDS software from Nexenta Systems and Cloudian, respectively, delivering an innovative return on investment for storage solutions.

The DX8200N supports integrated file and block storage capabilities and enables the construction of large-scale systems through three technologies consisting of all-flash, hybrid, and hard disk. The DX8200C is an object-based storage appliance optimized for large-scale system deployments and represents the fastest-growing segment in the storage market. Both products are built on Lenovo's industry-leading x86 server platform and are scheduled to ship globally starting in the third quarter of 2016.

In addition, Lenovo introduced the new V-Series 12Gb SAN (Storage Area Network) family, the brand's first mid-range storage system. The V3700 V2 and V5030 are flexible hybrid and all-flash SAN solutions that help customers reduce storage operating costs by scaling their IT operations economically. The Lenovo V-Series family is scheduled to ship worldwide starting in June 2016.

New networking OS and expanded product family through collaboration with Juniper Networks

Lenovo has strengthened its networking portfolio by expanding related products and features, enabling customers to build more comprehensive solutions from core data centers to campuses. Lenovo also announced Lenovo Cloud NOS, a new next-generation network operating system (OS) that supports enhanced resilience, cloud-level scalability, and programmability. Customers can download Lenovo Cloud NOS starting June 17.

Lenovo has revealed additional details regarding the global strategic partnership with Juniper Networks announced earlier this year. With the signing of a distribution agreement between the two companies, Lenovo is now able to offer Juniper Networks' EX2300 and EX4550 Ethernet switches, as well as the QFX1002-72Q data center spline aggregation switch. Lenovo plans to sell Juniper Networks' products directly starting in the third quarter of this year as part of an integrated portfolio that includes its own data center access products.

Lenovo also announced a new virtual data center reference architecture, now available, which enables customers to virtually address all data center networking requirements by easily deploying a solution that integrates products from both companies.

Establishing a new industry standard with the latest high-performance servers

Lenovo has updated its x3850 X6 and x3950 X6 server families with the latest Intel Xeon E7-4800 and E7-8800 v4 processors, which provide 39% faster performance than previous products[2]. Supporting up to 12TB of memory, these products are ideal for mission-critical environments such as large-scale virtualization projects and big data analytics workloads, as well as in-memory applications such as SAP HANA and Hadoop.


Lenovo's Latest High-Performance Server 'x3950 X6'

Lenovo x3850 X6 and x3950 X6 products, which offer enhanced performance, demonstrated top performance in 17 new industry benchmarks[3]. In addition, the innovative modular compute book design enables rapid, cost-effective upgrades, providing high agility and resilience for data center infrastructure. These products will be available starting June 2016.

Significantly Expanded HX Series Hyperconverged Product Portfolio

Lenovo’s powerful 4-socket x3850 X6 server, equipped with Intel Xeon E7-8890 v4 processors running on Windows, delivers over 33% improved performance compared to previous generation Lenovo systems in the SAP SD 2-tier standard application benchmark[4]. Additionally, this new server supports 33% expanded memory for SAP S/4HANA solutions in an 8-socket, 8TB configuration with SAP HANA SPS12. This allows customers to not only expand their SAP S/4HANA space but also enables faster and more agile data access required for operating digital businesses5.

Lenovo also announced the ThinkServer sd350, a 2U 4-node (2U4N) system that offers outstanding density. Designed for more demanding software-defined workloads requiring the highest level of density, efficiency, and very reasonable cost of ownership, it will be available starting July 2016.

Lenovo has also significantly expanded its HX Series hyperconverged product portfolio. By combining Nutanix software with Lenovo's latest server technology, the HX Series hyperconverged products handle a wide variety of workloads while reducing the burden of system deployment costs.
