Symantec Launches 'Anomaly Detection for Automotive'... Expanding IoT Security Portfolio

Symantec (www.symantec.co.kr) announced the 'Symantec Anomaly Detection for Automotive' solution, which detects abnormal behavior in connected cars.

The newly announced automotive IoT security solution was developed by Symantec tailoring its long-standing experience and know-how in complex network environments to the automotive sector, providing core security features capable of detecting and resolving issues such as vehicle hacking.

Connected cars, which combine automotive and IT technologies, enable two-way communication, providing drivers with various convenience features such as real-time navigation, remote vehicle control and management services, as well as mobile hotspots and multimedia streaming. According to Gartner, the number of connected cars is expected to increase to 220 million by 2020.



In the future, related technologies are expected to evolve, such as autonomous driving or determining whether a driver can drive by checking their health status or blood alcohol concentration, but at the same time, they could become targets of hacker attacks, putting drivers and passengers at risk.

Symantec’s automotive IoT security solution provides on-vehicle security analytics based on machine learning technology. It monitors all CAN (Controller Area Network) buses without affecting the vehicle at all, automatically learning the normal state of vehicle operation to detect abnormal behavior that suggests a potential attack. Symantec's automotive IoT solution is applicable to most car models.

Symantec currently provides security for over one billion IoT devices, ranging from automobiles to smart meters and industrial control systems.
