KT Conducts Final Inspection Ahead of Conclusion of World's First Disaster Safety Communication Network Pilot Project

KT announced that it has successfully completed the final inspection ahead of the conclusion of the '2015 Disaster Safety Communication Network Construction Project No. 1' pilot project, which applies PS-LTE (Public Safety LTE) technology for the first time in the world.
KT was selected as the pilot operator for the National Disaster and Safety Communication Network in October 2015 and has been piloting and operating PS-LTE technology for the first time in the world in the areas scheduled to host the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, including PyeongChang-gun, Gangneung-si, and Jeongseon-gun in Gangwon-do. In this pilot project, KT led the construction and development across the entire spectrum, from establishing an operation center for monitoring and commanding disaster situations and wireless base stations in the PyeongChang area to developing and delivering dedicated terminals.
Meanwhile, ahead of the conclusion of the disaster safety communication network pilot project on the 16th, KT conducted rigorous verification tests on approximately 550 items, including "interconnection between operation centers and base stations," "whether standards were reflected," and "assessment of the suitability of 37 required disaster communication functions," in collaboration with the Korea Information and Communications Technology Association (TTA) and the Ministry of Public Safety and Security. By perfectly passing all areas of this verification, KT has secured a competitive edge in the upcoming main project.
In a survey conducted early this month targeting 137 organizations using the Gangwon-do disaster safety communication network, all participants responded that they were "very satisfied." Furthermore, the 'PS-LTE' disaster safety communication network received high praise at a demonstration held in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, attended by officials from disaster safety agencies, including Gangwon Governor Choi Moon-soon and Minister of Public Safety and Security Park In-yong. Encouraged by the high evaluation from the officials, KT has increased its confidence in the future of this project.
Park Yoon-young, Head of the Corporate Business Consulting Division at KT’s Corporate Business Group, stated, “With the successful implementation of the world’s first PS-LTE pilot network, we take pride in not only securing the foundation for the main national disaster safety communication network project but also proving the technological capabilities of KT and the domestic telecommunications industry.” He added, “For the main project scheduled to launch in the second half of the year, we will fully leverage KT’s differentiated network technology and the capabilities of the domestic IT industry, and in the future, we will enter the global market with our unique PS-LTE technology.”
The national disaster safety communication network construction project is scheduled to begin in October, after the pilot project ends on June 16, and after supplementing the results of the pilot project and gathering opinions from various sectors.

KT Establishes GiGA IoT Smart Center Capable of Integrated Management of Nationwide IoT Infrastructure
KT(www.kt.com, 회장 황창규)는 경기도 과천시 KT 과천지사 사옥 7층에 IoT 서비스 모니터링 기능과 플랫폼을 제어하는 ‘GiGA IoT 스마트 센터’를 개소했다고 18일 밝혔다. KT는 GiGA IoT 스마트 센터를 통해 기존 5개 IDC 센터에서 분산 모니터링하던 것을 통합해 IoT 서비스 상태에 대한 실시간 모니터 기능을 강화했다. 이를 통해 각 서비스에 대한 장애 감지와 장애 발생에 따른 대응 시간 단축이 가능하다. 또한, 기존 KT가 가진 유무선 네트워크 통합 관제 역량을 적용하여 실시간 장애 원인 분석과 원격 복구를 가능케 하는 시스템을 구축해 서비스의 안정적은 운용과 품질을 유지할 수 있도록 했다.

KT, 모든 LAN 환경에서 기가 속도 '저비용 기가 인터넷 확산'
KT는 LAN선 환경에서 거주하는 모든 고객에게 1Gbps 인터넷 속도를 제공할 수 있는 ‘2pairs LAN GiGA 인터넷’ 솔루션을 세계 최초로 개발했다고 7일 밝혔다. ‘2pairs LAN GiGA 인터넷’은 통신실과 가입자 구간의 변조방식을 개선해 속도를 2배 가량 증가 시키는 기술이다. 이 솔루션을 통해 KT는 광케이블(FTTH)망이나 4pairs LAN선이 설치되지 않은 환경에 거주하는 고객에게도 1Gbps 인터넷 속도를 제공할 수 있게 된다.

According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
