Announcement of 'Design 2020' Project to Foster Korea's Next Generation Creators

INNODESIGN (CEO Kim Young-se), a global design leader, Dassault Systemes Korea (CEO Cho Young-bin), a leader in the 3D solution market, and Stratasys Ltd. (Country Manager Daniel Thompson), a leader in 3D printing solutions, announced that the three companies are launching 'DESIGN 2020,' a youth design support project aimed at fostering young designers who will lead Korea's next generation of design.

'Design 2020', which will be jointly operated by the three companies, supports all those who wish to challenge themselves to develop products with new ideas using 3D solutions, including currently active young designers and students majoring in related fields, as well as those who are not design majors.

<DESIGN 2020> embodies the meaning of preparing for 2020, featuring 20 designers in their 20s selected through a portfolio review. The 20 selected designers will begin concept design work at the INNO Design Center located in Pangyo U-Space in July, and are scheduled to present their work results through an exhibition in early October.


Dassault Systèmes provides its cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform free of charge to enable designers to maximize their capabilities by utilizing the best solutions. Stratasys provides Stratasys and MakerBot 3D printing equipment and materials for professionals free of charge. Stratasys' 3D printers are installed at the Inno Design Center during the project period to help participating designers freely produce everything from concept modeling to final prototypes and verify their designs.

In addition, it supports the realization of optimal results through 3D printing via on-site training and consulting by professional engineers. InnoDesign has fully opened a Design Center to allow participants to realize their dreams in a professional design firm environment, providing support for the entire design process from start to finish, along with individual mentoring. In addition, this project is being carried out through Design Accelerator Lab (DXL-Lab), a recently launched design startup support platform.

Chairman Kim Young-se, who founded InnoDesign in Silicon Valley, USA in 1986 and has showcased numerous designs leading the global market while traveling between Korea and the U.S., explained the background of the project's planning, stating, "As we celebrated the 30th anniversary of InnoDesign earlier this year, I pondered how to support young designers who find it difficult to realize their dreams in a stagnant design market. Consequently, we launched DXL-Lab in collaboration with Dassault Systèmes as a platform to foster outstanding designers and support design startups. I am very pleased to be able to take the first step with this meaningful project."

Experts leading the entire industry with SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.Dassault Systèmes, a distributor of 3D software, plans to actively support the nurturing of next-generation designers by operating 3D modeling and design solution training courses in partnership with InnoDesign. As part of its domestic CSR programs, Dassault Systèmes Korea has already been running 3D experience classes for youth in collaboration with schools, as well as educational programs to assist career-interrupted women in STEM fields, people with disabilities, and university students with employment. Stratasys intends to contribute to realizing the imagination of next-generation designers through industry-leading 3D printers and solutions for producing prototypes and manufacturing parts with exceptional realism that are close to the final product. Building on this project, Stratasys plans to expand its support activities for domestic 3D printing education and the design community in the future.

The three companies plan to highlight the role and interest of designers in creating a better world through the <DESIGN 2020> project. They also intend to jointly support the commercialization of outstanding works from the project and actively assist designers in finding employment. The results of the 'DESIGN 2020' project, which is scheduled to be held annually to foster Korea's next generation of creators, will be presented and exhibited at the Dassault Systèmes annual conference scheduled to be held at the Shilla Hotel on October 5.
