Precise positioning possible, with u-blox cellular module and 7 GNSS chip

Kiwi Plus, a Korean software development company, announced that it has developed and launched a children's smartwatch with precision location tracking capability, the 'Line Kids Watch', in collaboration with u -blox .

The 'Line Kids Watch' is an Android-based smartwatch that offers cute and colorful features using the characters of the global mobile messenger 'Line', and is sold in Korea through KT. This smartwatch provides educational and interactive content while also accurately tracking the location of child users.

The 'Line Kids Watch' is equipped with 'Kiwi Edge', an IoT platform for wearables developed by Kiwi Plus. It is designed with a simple LCD screen that allows one-touch calling, and provides accurate real-time location tracking and convenient safety zone settings. The emergency notification function allows children to easily send text messages when they speak into the microphone. In addition, there are educational quizzes and Cashbee NFC transportation card payment functions.



“We wanted to provide accurate tracking capabilities combined with high-quality cellular communications, and u-blox was already providing a feature that combines GNSS positioning and wireless communications to a leading brand of children’s smartwatches,” said Sangwon Seo, CEO of Kiwi Plus. “So, considering not only the processing speed but also the compactness, low power consumption and powerful positioning capabilities, u-blox was the right choice,” he said.

The smartwatch features the u-blox cellular module SARA-U270 and the u-blox 7 GNSS chip UBX-G7020-KT. The SARA-U270 UMTS/HSPA module provides efficient and cost-effective high-speed mobile connectivity in an ultra-small LGA form factor. The high-performance UBX-G7020 multi-GNSS chip supports GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, and SBAS and provides excellent sensitivity and position acquisition times. It also features very low power consumption and a very small footprint of 30 mm2.
