KT Introduces Key Technologies of 'Pyeongchang 5G Standard' at the Korea Institute of Communication Sciences
Published2016.06.24 09:15KT (Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu) announced on the 23rd that it unveiled the 'Pyeongchang 5G Standard' for the 5G pilot service at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics to approximately 80 attendees, including government agencies, affiliated research institutes, academia, and industry, at the Korea Institute of Communication Sciences Summer Conference held at the Jeju International Convention Center.
KT held a special session on the theme of 'Overview of PyeongChang Winter Olympics 5G Pilot Services and Technical Specifications' and presented details of domestic and international activities to develop the world's first common 5G specifications and the core technologies of the 'PyeongChang 5G Specifications'.
In addition, an overall plan for 5G pilot services was unveiled, including a detailed introduction to the various immersive services to be provided during the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
KT predicted that the 'Pyeongchang 5G Standard' is more than 18 months ahead of the 3GPP international standard schedule and includes most of the 5G elemental technologies currently under review by 3GPP, thereby solidifying a favorable position to be reflected in future 5G international standards.
Oh Seong-mok, Vice President of KT’s Network Division, stated, “The unveiling of the ‘PyeongChang 5G Standard’ at this special session is intended to request cooperation and interest so that the PyeongChang Winter Olympics can be successfully prepared,” adding, “We will do our best to make it a true 5G Olympics through continuous efforts.”

KT Unveils Immersive 5G Olympic Technology at World IT Show
