Hansung SMB Solution Launches QNAP Enterprise NAS ZFS ES1640dc
Showcasing performance optimized for corporate environments using the FreeBSD-based QES operating system

Hansung SMB Solution Co., Ltd. (CEO Seok-Joo Kwon, www.hansungsmb.co.kr, hereinafter referred to as Hansung SMB) announced on the 29th that it is launching QNAP's mid-level NAS storage model Enterprise ZFS NAS ES1640dc targeting enterprise environments.

QNAP, which has been releasing data storage products suitable for small and medium-sized business environments, is expanding its scope of activities to more specialized enterprise cloud computing data storage, starting with the Enterprise ZFS NAS ES1640dc product. It plans to flexibly respond to virtualization and the cloud with stronger security by adding QNAP’s operating system software design capabilities to its excellent hardware technology.

In particular, QNAP's first mid-level NAS storage Enterprise ZFS NAS ES1640dc is equipped with the FreeBSD-based QES operating system, and offers capabilities far superior to similar products, such as providing nearly unlimited snapshot functions, which are considered to be optimized for ransomware, a hacking threat that has recently threatened corporate environments. It has the optimal marketability for building virtualization (VDI) platforms and storage using block-level data duplication and thin provisioning (including recovery).

The newly released QNAP ES1640dc comes with a basic 3U size rackmount design, is equipped with an Intel Xeon® E5-2400 v2 processor, 32GB of main memory, and dual active controller technology to provide optimal efficiency in business environments where high availability, non-stop operation, and uninterrupted power are important. In addition, it supports DRAM with built-in auxiliary battery, dual 10GbE ports, optional 40GbE NIC, redundant power supply, and hardware expansion for easy maintenance.

“The ES1640dc adopts dual active controllers to operate with the highest reliability and high availability,” said Waterball Liu, QNAP’s head of headquarters. “The QES operating system introduced together with it not only inherits the QTS experience that QNAP NAS users have enjoyed, but also provides various options to bring out even more outstanding functions.”

Additionally, the QNAP ES1640dc can be linked with the expansion enclosure EJ1600, which can reduce costs in additional expansion. The base spec is 3U size with 2x mini SAS ports, and can accommodate 16x 3.5"/2.5" SAS 6Gbps hard drives or 2.5" SAS/SATA SSD storage.

Meanwhile, Bae Hyeon-wook, deputy manager of Hansung SMB Solution, a storage company that has specialized in storage and network solution equipment for small and medium-sized enterprises since 2006 and is QNAP’s domestic distributor, said, “QNAP’s first OpenStack Ready NAS, the ES1640dc, is suitable for virtualization and the best choice for cloud applications.” He explained, “It is the optimal storage solution that can prevent unnecessary duplicate investments when companies are building a VDI environment.”
