KT introduced '2016 Summer Recommended Books' to help understand the latest economic and business trends and ICT in time for the summer vacation season.
The KT Economic and Management Research Institute selects and announces recommended books worth reading during the summer vacation season every year. For the 2016 Recommended Books of the Year, all researchers at the KT Economic and Management Research Institute and members of the ICT knowledge portal 'Digieco (www.digieco.co.kr)' participated in selecting a total of 14 books, with 7 books each across the two fields of economics and management and ICT convergence.
This year's recommended books in the economics and business sector were dominated by titles examining domestic and international social issues such as population aging, North Korea, youth unemployment, and the Chinese bubble; additionally, a number of books on innovation strategies were selected to offer guidance on how companies and individuals should survive in an era of uncertainty, such as the Brexit crisis. It also included an introductory economics book that is easy to read on vacation.
Recommended books in the field of ICT convergence include "The Fourth Industrial Revolution" by Klaus Schwab, which covers artificial intelligence (AI) that generated great buzz in the first half of the year and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, a key theme of the Davos Forum; "Makers' Evolution," which covers the Internet of Things (IoT) that is attracting attention as a new growth engine; and "Tencent Ma Huateng," which deals with Tencent, a Chinese company attracting attention for its acquisition of Supercell. Additionally, "Technology Addicted Society," a book that uniquely warns against excessive technological optimism, was also selected and drew attention.
Park Dae-soo, Director of the KT Economic and Management Research Institute, commented, “This year, we primarily selected books that are easy and enjoyable to read during summer vacation, centering on the latest releases published in the first half of the year.” He added, “Looking at the recommended books reveals current trends; this year, the content mainly consists of future paradigms such as artificial intelligence and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. At the same time, many books dealing with realistic issues such as aging, unemployment, North Korea, and the Chinese bubble were also selected, indicating a strong interest in both the present and the future.”
