'The Card' by Maneul Lab, a domestic IT payment solution developer, supports various payment methods by supporting Bluetooth low energy and NFC, embedded IC, dynamic magnetic stripe, and barcode with a single card.

Nordic Semiconductor (Korea Country Manager: Choi Su-chul) announced that Maneul Lab, a domestic IT payment solution developer, has adopted Nordic's award-winning nRF51822 SoC (System-on-Chip) in its all-in-one payment solution, 'The Card,' which integrates cash withdrawal, transportation, membership, and secure smart card functions into one.

This smart card can be used anywhere in the world and supports various payment methods through Bluetooth low energy (Bluetooth® low energy; previously named Bluetooth Smart), NFC (Near Field Communication), embedded IC, Dynamic Magnetic Stripe, and barcode technology.

'The Card' is currently available in two versions: a 'Touch' type and a '3 Button' type. Users can load their existing payment cards, transportation, and membership cards onto this smart card through partner apps. When using the card, users press the power button to activate it, and in the touch version, they can scroll through the EPD (Electronic Paper Display) panel to select the desired card from stored cards. The 3 button version allows users to select stored cards by pressing buttons on 'The Card.'

This smart card supports various payment services including cash withdrawal from ATM machines, online/offline payments, NFC transportation cards, and mobile payments. Additionally, security functions are provided through IC and NFC lock control methods, allowing users to keep embedded IC or NFC functions locked via the app until the card is used. The security level has been further enhanced by adding a one-time password (OTP) function, which requires a secondary security code to operate the smart card.

Nordic's nRF51822 is a powerful yet flexible multi-protocol SoC that is an ideal solution for Bluetooth low energy and 2.4GHz ultra-low-power wireless applications. The nRF51822 is based on a 32-bit ARM® Cortex™ M0 CPU and features 256kB/128kB flash and 32kB/16kB RAM, with its built-in 2.4GHz transceiver fully compatible with Bluetooth 4.2, the latest Bluetooth low energy specification. 'The Card' provides wireless connectivity with Bluetooth smart phones compatible with iOS and Android through the nRF51822 SoC, and the large-capacity flash memory embedded in the chip enables 'The Card' to store information from up to 200 existing cards at once. This is a breakthrough compared to existing smart cards, which can support fewer than 10 card records simultaneously.

'The Card' is equipped with a 10mAh lithium-ion battery that can maintain battery life for up to one month during normal operation, and the ultra-low-power characteristics of the nRF51822 SoC also contribute to this performance. The battery can be wirelessly charged within 1 to 2 hours when NFC on the user's smartphone is activated. Even when the battery is completely depleted, the last used card information is retained, so it can be used at any time.
