Leading global standards by hosting the IoT World Congress
Hosting the LoRa World Congress and expecting synergy with domestic IoT Week

The LoRa International Alliance World Congress, which discusses future strategies for the IoT industry, will be held in Seoul.

SK Telecom (CEO and President Jang Dong-hyun, www.sktelecom.com) announced that it will host the World Congress of the LoRa Alliance, a standard for IoT dedicated networks, in Seoul this coming October, and through this, will take a leading role in global standardization, including IoT dedicated network roaming.

SK Telecom plans to establish pilot roaming networks in Europe and Korea within the year to develop an IoT dedicated network roaming system with IT companies in Europe, and the general meeting in October is expected to be a significant turning point in realizing this. This roaming technology will lay the foundation for activating global IoT services in various fields in the future, such as cross-border container location tracking.

The LoRa International General Assembly is a venue for discussing and deciding agendas such as marketing, security, and strategy, in addition to discussing technical standards, to revitalize the IoT dedicated network ecosystem. SK Telecom is not only discussing technical standards such as global roaming, but is also discussing the activation of IoT services with major operators such as Orange (France), KPN (Netherlands), Bouygues (France), and Swisscom (Switzerland), and is actively working to expand its dedicated IoT network globally.

SK Telecom plans to host the LoRa International Alliance General Assembly in Seoul for the first time in Asia. At the event, the company intends to share its know-how on the nationwide commercialization of LoRa networks, the current status of IoT services, and the activation of the ecosystem through win-win cooperation with SMEs with over 360 LoRa member companies worldwide, and to promote SK Telecom’s leadership in the IoT industry to support the revitalization of the global IoT industry.

In particular, SK Telecom’s LoRa-related technology is considered to have been recognized by global companies, as it was selected as the host of the next general assembly after closely cooperating with key members of the LoRa International Alliance in advance and competing against China for the first general assembly in Asia.

In particular, this general assembly is expected to create synergy with Korea's 'IoT Week.' IoT Week is an event led by SK Telecom, the president company of the Korea Internet of Things Association, which organizes exhibitions, conferences, and IoT idea contests with the goal of activating IoT—a key next-generation growth engine—and spreading it throughout the nation. It is anticipated to serve as a platform for collaboration where LoRa member companies participating in the general assembly can gain an understanding of the domestic advanced IoT industry and discover new business opportunities.
