Combining Amazon's IoT services with SmartThinQ sensors and hubs
A new smart refrigerator equipped with a display was also unveiled.

LG Electronics has partnered with Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce company, in the smart home sector.

LG Electronics has decided to integrate Amazon's Internet of Things services into the SmartThinQ™ Sensor and SmartThinQ™ Hub launched in Korea.

LG Electronics integrates Amazon's voice recognition service, Alexa, with the SmartThinQ Hub. Users can control LG home appliances through the SmartThinQ Hub using only their voice. They can check the weather or schedule via the SmartThinQ Hub's screen and voice, and listen to music from their smartphones when connected via Bluetooth.

The SmartThinQ sensor incorporates the features of Amazon's shopping system, 'Dash.' Users can conveniently order daily necessities simply by pressing the sensor.

For example, you can purchase detergent by pressing the SmartThinQ sensor attached to the washing machine door, and beverages by pressing the sensor attached to the refrigerator.

SmartThinQ sensors can be attached to ordinary home appliances without smart functions, allowing them to be used like smart appliances. If you attach this sensor to a washing machine, it notifies you to drain the wash water if there is no vibration for a certain period after the wash is finished, and it also remembers the accumulated number of washes to notify you when to clean the drum.

LG Electronics also introduced new accessories, including the SmartThinQ Bulb, an LED light controllable via smartphone; the SmartThinQ Plug, which monitors power consumption; and the SmartThinQ Motion Sensor, which detects movement and notifies users via smartphone. All of these products are compatible with SmartThinQ Sensors and Hubs.

LG Electronics also unveiled a new smart refrigerator for the first time. This product features a transparent Magic Space located on the right door of the upper refrigerator compartment. The exterior is a touch-enabled 29-inch LCD display. Applying the 'Knock-on' function, which turns on a smartphone screen by double-tapping, users can look inside the refrigerator by double-tapping the Magic Space. While viewing the stored food through the transparent window, users can input expiration dates and other information into the food management list on the display.

The 2-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera located at the top of the refrigerator compartment captures not only the vegetable compartment but also the beverage storage space inside the door and sends the images to the user's smartphone, making it very useful when ordering food from outside.

LG smart refrigerators learn family usage patterns and environmental changes on their own to operate optimally. The refrigerator enters energy-saving mode when the customer goes out or falls asleep, and if it detects high temperatures and humidity during the summer, it operates the internal sterilization function at maximum power to prevent food spoilage.

When a user places warm food into the refrigerator, the temperature sensor in the refrigerator compartment detects this and rotates the cooling fan quickly, reducing the time it takes to reach the set temperature by up to 30% compared to a standard refrigerator, allowing the food to be stored more freshly.

This product is equipped with Intel's Atom processor, a low-power CPU for embedded systems. Users can enjoy various content such as music, movies, and radio in the kitchen, and utilize internet services such as web surfing and memo management.

LG Electronics will unveil various smart home solutions at 'IFA 2016', which will be held in Berlin, Germany from the 2nd to the 7th.
