'Cookiz Watch Jun3', Industry-leading electromagnetic wave performance, significantly improved location accuracy

A kids' phone is being released that drastically reduces parents' concerns by significantly improving safety management features for children.

SK Telecom announced on the 26th that it will launch the 'Cookiz Watch JooN 3,' which features significantly enhanced safety and security functions, such as improved location accuracy and waterproofing, and adopts the first high-resolution circular LCD in a kids' phone.

The child safety and security management service of the Jun3 has been further enhanced. It is equipped with two GPS modules, and positioning accuracy both indoors and outdoors has been greatly improved through location verification using base stations, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, and the time required for location measurement has also been reduced.

In addition, it is the first kids' phone in Korea to obtain IP67* dust and water resistance certification, enhancing water resistance for everyday use, and has reduced the electromagnetic wave absorption rate to the industry's highest level (0.69W/kg).

The design changes of the Jun 3 are also notable. As the first kids' phone to feature a high-resolution circular LCD, it enhances UI convenience by displaying six main menu icons on a single screen and achieves a thin thickness of 1.34 cm. The band colors are also supported in three options—red, yellow, and pink—to suit child users, and a D-buckle has been applied for ease of wearing.

The performance of Jun3 has also been significantly enhanced. The Qualcomm chip (QC MSM 8909W), released exclusively for wearable devices, has been applied to a kids' phone for the first time in the world. It is equipped with Android OS, Bluetooth functionality, and a battery that supports up to 82 hours of standby time.

Much of the feedback from the customer advisory group of the previous Jun 1 and 2 has also been incorporated. The Jun 3 features an on-screen phone dialer and text keypad, enabling free calling and texting. It also addresses the inconvenience of the speakerphone, adds a "Whisper" mode for privacy protection, and supports Bluetooth earphones.

In conjunction with the launch of the Jun 3, the benefits of the exclusive 'Cookiz Watch' rate plan have also been enhanced starting September 1. Voice call minutes have been increased by 20 minutes compared to the previous plan, and a new benefit of basic text messaging has been introduced. For a monthly fee of 8,800 won (including VAT), users can enjoy unlimited voice calls to one designated SK Telecom line, 50 minutes of voice calls, 100MB of data, and text messaging services. As of September 1, the improved rate plan is available not only to Jun 3 customers but also to existing customers using Jun 1 and 2.

Engaging features, such as the "Character Collection" mode from Jun 2 that was popular among children, have been significantly expanded. Over 10 different popular characters, including Turning Mecard, Pokémon, and Secret Jouju, are supported, and more character types are planned to be added in the future. These characters can be used for various content, such as character collection (including 192 types of Turning Mecard cards), watch faces/ringtones, and quizzes. Charming features, such as mission completion and conversations with children, have also been added to foster close communication between parents and children.

In addition, the parent app linked with Jun3 has also been significantly revamped. Even if parents use a different mobile carrier, they can link with their child's Jun3. Through the parent app installed on their smartphone, parents can check their child's location and communicate with them via calls, JunTalk, and text messages, as well as utilize the benefits of the Kids Shop, which offers various customized experiential learning activities and products.

With the inclusion of the Android OS in the JUND 3, scalability is ensured and connectivity with various devices has become possible. It can wirelessly control the Dash and Dot robot released in the U.S., and SK Telecom plans to develop various integrated services in the future, including connectivity with Sphero robots and the smart robot Albert.

The Kids Watch Jun series has been leading the kids' phone craze since SK Telecom launched it in July 2014 as the first wearable exclusively for kids, with over 350,000 children subscribing as of the end of August 2016, and is expected to be loved by even more child customers with the release of this significantly upgraded third version.

SK Telecom also developed the JUNE 3 in collaboration with Infomark and S-Mobile, the developers of JUNE 1 and 2. Based on over three years of development and operation experience, both companies possess excellent technological capabilities, and the Jun series is considered a prime example of creating new markets through mutual cooperation.

SK Telecom’s Head of Device Planning Division, Kim Seong-han, stated, “The Cookiz Watch Jun3 has evolved beyond the limitations of existing kids’ wearables to become closer to a smartwatch,” adding, “We will expand the related ecosystem by developing products and integrated services that meet the diverse needs of kids’ customers, such as safety, security, and education.”
