Winner of two of Asia's most prestigious awards in the mobile communications field, both in the 5G category.
Winner of the '5G Research Outstanding Contribution Award' and '5G Research and Development Cooperation Award'

SK Telecom's efforts and technological prowess to lead 5G have once again been recognized as world-class.

SK Telecom announced that it won the '5G Research Outstanding Contribution Award' (jointly with Nokia) and the '5G Research and Development Cooperation Award' (jointly with Ericsson) at the '5G & LTE Asia Awards 2016' (5G Asia Conference) held in Singapore on the 27th (local time), sweeping both awards in 5G-related fields.

SK Telecom also received the 'RANNY Award for Best 5G Initiative' at the 'RAN World Conference 2016' held in Germany on the same day.

SK Telecom's 'Biggest Contribution to 5G R&D' award at the 5G Asia Conference is an evaluation that the technological advancements in the 5G wireless transmission system and SDN-based distributed core network that have been introduced so far have been recognized worldwide.

SK Telecom, together with Nokia, developed and demonstrated the world's first wireless transmission speed (20.5 Gbps), the minimum requirement for 5G proposed by the ITU, and also successfully developed a distributed core network based on software-defined networking (SDN), securing the basic technology for stable 5G operation.
 
In addition, the '5G Research and Development Cooperation Award' jointly awarded to SK Telecom and Ericsson was applauded by the international community for the cooperation shown by both companies in the development of 5G wireless technology and network slicing to build the world's first 5G test network.

In addition, Jinhyo Park, Director of Network Technology, was invited as a keynote speaker at the 5G Asia Conference and shared his experience in 5G technology development and suggested future directions for 5G development on the morning of the 27th (local time).

SK Telecom also won the 'Best 5G Initiative' award at the 'RANNY Awards' held at the RAN World Conference, competing with leading European operators such as Telecom Italia of Italy and Megafon of Russia.

SK Telecom explained that the opening of the '5G Innovation Center' in October of last year and the world's first 19.1 Gbps 5G wireless transmission and SDN-based distributed core network in collaboration with Nokia were highly evaluated.

In addition to winning the 5G & LTE Asia Awards 2016 and RANNY Awards, SK Telecom has been recognized internationally as a telecommunications company leading next-generation network technology, including winning the 'IMS Virtualization Technology Award' at the 'IMS Industry Awards' in May of this year and the 'Wireless Network Innovation Award' at the 'GTB (Global Telecoms Business) Innovation Awards'.

Park Jin-hyo, head of SK Telecom's network technology lab, said, "Winning the 5G & LTE Asia Awards and the RANNY Awards is a result of SK Telecom's next-generation network technology being recognized globally," adding, "We will continue to develop 5G and “We will proactively develop innovative technologies in the LTE field to provide customers with the best network services,” he said.
