'NFV License Management' Document Finally Approved as International Standard Item
Expected to play a key role in the future network era, including 5G and next-generation B2B.

KT announced on the 3rd that 'NFV License Management,' which it proposed, was approved as an international standard item at the 15th ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) NFV (Network Function Virtualization) standards meeting held in France last September.

NFV is a technology that converts existing network equipment into software-based delivery, and it is a key element for 5G networks and B2B services where efficiency is required. This enables carriers to launch new services more quickly, and allows customers to receive necessary network services rapidly and flexibly.

ETSI, one of the world's leading international telecommunications standards organizations, leads the standardization of NFV technology, and global telecommunications companies and major ICT vendors participate in standardization meetings to define technical specifications.

Based on 'NFV License Management,' which was exclusively contributed to the 14th ETSI meeting last May, KT has been working on standardization with global telecommunications operators such as British Telecommunications, Verizon, and Deutsche Telekom, as well as solution vendors such as NetCracker Technology and RIFT.io. It was finally approved as an international standard item through the presentation of work results at the 15th ETSI meeting.

The international standard item for 'NFV license management' is a technology that centrally and quickly sets license information when creating and removing software network equipment, and using this simplifies complex license management processes, enabling the rapid launch of various convergence services.

In particular, KT predicted that 'NFV license management' would play a key role in accelerating the future network era, such as 5G and next-generation B2B services, by eliminating the hassle of matching interoperability standards that differ for each operator.

Lee Dong-myeon, President of KT Convergence Technology Institute, said, “KT is currently piloting services for the enterprise B2B market and wireless network virtualization based on NFV technology,” adding, “By leading the standardization of NFV license management technology, we plan to contribute to the development of enterprise infrastructure and next-generation 5G networks on behalf of domestic telecommunications companies.”
