Universal Robots CTO at RoboWorld 2016
Emphasizing the significance of collaborative robots as assistants that help humans

Universal Robots announced that its CTO, Esben Østergaard, participated as a keynote speaker at RoboWorld 2016, held on the 12th.

In his keynote speech at RoboWorld 2016, Esben Östergaard defined collaborative robots as “not a threat that takes away people’s jobs, but an assistant that works alongside people and creates greater synergy.” He expressed a positive outlook on the jobs and changes in our lives that collaborative robots will bring, stating, “As collaborative robots take over dangerous or monotonous repetitive tasks, existing employees will be able to take on more creative work, which will result in increased productivity and efficient work allocation.”


At a meeting held on the 13th, Esben Ostergaard of Universal Robots unveiled Universal Robots' superior safety systems and advanced technology, and introduced the recently launched Universal Robots+.

He stated, “Universal Robot’s collaborative robots have recently received application certification from the international certification body (TÜV SÜD), making them usable in cleanroom workplaces,” and added, “Taking this opportunity, we are now able to introduce Universal Robot’s collaborative robots, which boast user-friendliness and reasonable prices, to various industries that include cleanroom workplaces, such as laboratories, the medical and pharmaceutical sectors, the food industry, and the semiconductor manufacturing industry.”

Universal Robots’ UR3, UR5, and UR10, which comply with the industry standard ISO 14644-1, have received Cleanroom Class ISO 5, making them suitable for use in cleanroom workplaces, and Universal Robots’ controller box has also been assigned Cleanroom Class ISO 6.

Universal Robots recently unveiled UR Academy, which includes Universal Robots+ and free online learning (e-learning) modules, on its official website. Universal Robots Plus is an online showroom that introduces end-effectors, software, peripherals, and accessories developed by external developers to be optimized for perfect operation with Universal Robots’ collaborative robots, helping Universal Robots’ integrators, distributors, and consumers use the robots immediately after installation.

In addition, at UR Academy, which provides free basic programming training for Universal Robots, you can learn about adding end effectors, I/O connections for communication with external devices, and installing safety zones.

Meanwhile, Universal Robots has newly established a Northeast Asia branch to keep pace with the growing demand in the Asian market. Tsuyoshi Yamane, who was appointed as the General Manager of Universal Robots NEA, stated at a press conference that "the Korean market is one of the key markets that Universal Robots is focusing on," and asked for continued interest in Universal Robots as it continues to be active in the Korean market.

Universal Robots' Northeast Asia region includes branches in Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, and the Northeast Asia branch plans to communicate with local markets, partners, and Universal Robots customers from a closer location in the future.
