ON Semiconductor Showcases Intelligent Power Modules at electronica 2016

ON Semiconductor has launched new intelligent power modules (IPM) for industrial power management and motor control applications.
The new STK57FU394AG-E (15A) and STK5MFU3C1A-E (30A) from ON Semiconductor, reinforcing its position as a leading provider in the IPM field, are advanced 600V IPMs that integrate a power factor correction (PFC) converter, three-phase inverter output stage, pre-drive circuit, and protection in a compact single package.
These highly integrated devices significantly help reduce component count and board space compared to discrete devices in various applications such as motor control, inverter control, and HVAC systems. Microcontroller-compatible low-power inputs and status outputs efficiently support both component count and space savings by eliminating the need for photocouplers between the host microcontroller and IPM.
These devices include built-in cross-conduction prevention functionality that reduces the possibility of system malfunction due to noise, as well as overcurrent protection for both the inverter and PFC sections. Undervoltage shutdown function ensures IGBT gate shutdown under abnormal conditions. Both devices are UL1557 certified and feature externally accessible thermistors that monitor the insulated metal substrate temperature with high precision.

The STK57FU394AG-E and STK5MFU3C1A-E efficiently deliver high integration, high functionality, and high reliability—all essential elements for next-generation inverter-based systems."
During electronica 2016, ON Semiconductor will display an 800W motor driver system solution including the STK5Q4U3xxJ compact IPM and NCP1631 interleaved PFC controller through a 400 square-meter booth, along with various products and technologies in power management and motor control. In particular, these solutions utilize ON Semiconductor's NCP1063 AC/DC regulator for auxiliary power supply and sensing using the NCS20034 quad op-amps.
During the exhibition, various features will be demonstrated including the 10 µs fault response time of NIS5020 and NIS5132 e-fuse devices, overvoltage clamping, thermal shutdown and adjustable current limiting—superior characteristics compared to conventional PTC devices—as well as surge protection and inrush current limiting technologies. Additionally, the NGTB40N120FL3 1200V/40Amp IGBT, delivering top performance in conventional double pulse test setups, will be displayed alongside the FFSH40120ADN 1200V/40Amp SiC device.
Beyond these products, visitors to ON Semiconductor's booth can view demonstrations of smart passive sensors and DC/DC PoL, test ON Semiconductor's online design and simulation tools, and explore new innovations in automotive applications and IoT solutions.

ON Semiconductor Launches Next-Generation Fan Motor Driver Series
ON Semiconductor has announced a series of devices for driving 3-phase BLDC motors through 180-degree sinusoidal waveforms. The LV8811, LV8813, and LV8814, designed for use in cooling fans in home appliances such as refrigerators as well as game consoles and computer equipment, feature operating voltage ranges of 3.6 to 16 volts (V) and 6 to 16 volts, respectively. The newly launched highly integrated "software-free" motor driver products reduce software development time and simplify motor control circuit design. Additionally, these devices reduce acoustic noise and vibration and enable the development of energy-efficient motor control. The devices are controlled by a single Hall sensor that reduces system cost. Motor speed is set via PWM signal or DC voltage, and lead angle is easily adjustable.
