Provides over 93% efficiency in Burst Mode® operation

Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-gwak) announced the launch of a synchronous step-down switching regulator (product name: LT8630) capable of 600mA, 100V input.

This device achieves a high efficiency of 93% with synchronous rectification, while maintaining a no-load standby current of 7µA in Burst Mode® operation. Its 3V to 100V input voltage range makes it ideal for 48V automotive systems, dual-battery transportation, industrial, and 35V to 72V telecom applications. Internal high-efficiency switches provide up to 600mA of continuous output current at voltages as low as 0.8V.

The LT8630's Burst Mode operation provides extremely low quiescent current, making it ideal for applications such as automotive always-on systems that require extended battery life. The LT8630's unique design maintains a minimum dropout voltage, enabling operation at duty cycles of up to 99%.

The variable-frequency boundary-mode switching topology delivers high efficiency over a wide input range. The LT8630's 20-lead TSSOP package with high-voltage lead spacing provides a very compact, thermally efficient footprint for high-voltage applications.

The LT8630 uses internal high-efficiency top and bottom power switches with the necessary boost diode, oscillator, control, and logic circuitry integrated into a single die. Low ripple burst mode operation maintains high efficiency at low output currents while keeping output ripple below 5 mVP-P.

Special design techniques ensure high efficiency across a wide input range, and the LT8630's current-mode topology ensures fast transient response and excellent loop stability. Additional features include robust short-circuit protection, a power-good flag, output voltage tracking, and overtemperature protection.

The LT8630EFE is available in a thermally enhanced TSSOP-20 package. An industrial temperature version, the LT8630IFE, is tested and guaranteed to operate from –40°C to 125°C. Pricing starts at $3.60 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
