Emerson Network Power Reborn as Independent Company After Sale to Platinum Equity

Vertiv announced the appointment of Rob Johnson as its new CEO and the official launch of a campaign to announce the company’s name change and rebrand from Emerson Network Power to Vertiv.
Vertiv is a global supplier of critical infrastructure technologies for critical applications in data centers, communications networks, commercial and industrial environments. Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Vertiv employs approximately 20,000 people and operates more than 25 manufacturing and assembly facilities worldwide.
Platinum Equity acquired the company from Emerson Group in a deal valued at more than $4 billion.
Rob Johnson, the new CEO, most recently served as an operating partner at venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) and prior to that spent 10 years at American Power Conversion (APC), a leader in data center infrastructure. He was president and CEO of APC when it was sold to Schneider Electric for $6.1 billion in 2007. While at APC, he also served as General Manager of the Availability Enhancement Group.
Bryan Kelln, Platinum Equity Partner and Managing Director of Portfolio Operations, said Johnson’s combined leadership and technology expertise make him a perfect fit to lead Vertiv. In addition to APC, Rob also served as an executive at Consolidated Container Corporation, a provider of rigid plastic packaging solutions.
In 1989, he founded Systems Enhancement Corporation (SEC), a software and hardware solutions developer for the UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) industry. He sold the company to APC in 1997.
Vertiv will build on the broad portfolio of products and services in power, climate control and IT management previously offered by Emerson Network Power, including industry-leading brands such as ASCO®, Chloride®, Liebert®, NetSure™ and Trellis™.
In November 2013, Platinum Equity acquired more than half of Emerson's Embedded Computing and Power business, later renamed Artesyn Embedded Technologies.
Vertiv also unveiled a new corporate website (www.VertivCo.com) along with the new mission statement. Vertiv supports the evolving needs of enterprise customers in digital infrastructure, including data center colocation, energy storage and sustainability, as well as solutions for mobile, cloud and edge computing. Vertiv has sales and service support personnel in nearly every major country, supporting these activities through more than 255 service centers worldwide, more than 3,000 service support engineers, and more than 400 technical support and response personnel.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.

Ecolab Expands AI Data Center Cooling Business Through Acquisition of CoolIT
Ecolab has agreed to acquire CoolIT Systems, a liquid cooling company for AI data centers, for approximately $4.75 billion. The transaction is expected to close by Q3 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. CoolIT has been supplying direct-to-chip cooling-based coolant distribution units, cold plates, and manifolds, serving hyperscale data centers and colocation operators as customers. This acquisition is a measure to address the high-heat and high-density server environments created by AI proliferation. Ecolab plans to combine its water management and digital monitoring capabilities with CoolIT's hardware technology to expand its data center cooling business.
