Wind River VxWorks 653 Wins Software Award for Aerospace and Defense Markets

Wind River, an Intel subsidiary, announced that its high-reliability embedded software 'VxWorks 653' platform won the Platinum Award at the '2016 Defense and Aerospace Electronics Technology and Intelligent Aircraft Technology Innovation Awards'.

This award was presented by Military & Aerospace Electronics, a media outlet specializing in the defense and aerospace industries, and recognizes and announces world-class products and technologies that have contributed to solving challenges in the electronic design process for the defense and aerospace industries.

VxWorks 653 is a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software platform for high-reliability integrated modular avionics (IMA) applications. It is optimized for applications requiring the highest levels of safety and security, such as defense, aviation, and space.

VxWorks 653, which complies with the ARINC 653 international standard for aircraft operating systems, supports spatial and temporal partitioning for each application software. This ensures high reliability by preventing a single application error from negatively impacting the entire system in mission-critical environments such as avionics systems. It also helps to minimize the space, weight, and power (SWaP) of cutting-edge aircraft while lowering the bill of materials. Additionally, many customers around the world have chosen VxWorks 653 because it can reduce program risks through COTS certification evidence.

VxWorks 653 is the most reliable embedded software platform with extensive deployments across more than 200 customers, 80 aircraft, and 400 programs, including commercial aircraft, space, and mission-critical manned and unmanned aircraft programs, including the Airbus Helicopters H175, H145, Airbus Military A330 MRTT, Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Boeing 767 Tanker, Boeing P-8A Poseidon, Lockheed Martin C-130T, and Northrop Grumman UH-60V Blackhawk Helicopter.
