Establishment of a cooperative framework for the realization of future smart cities and the revitalization of the ICT convergence industry
Development plan to integrate urban disaster safety and experiential tourism services with ICT

KT and Daegu Metropolitan City signed a business agreement at the KT Daegu Headquarters on the 20th to establish a cooperation system for the realization of a future smart city and the revitalization of the ICT convergence industry.

This agreement is for the development of convergence technologies and businesses that will lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and the parties agreed to jointly pursue the development of IoT-based wellness services and the creation of a smart health ecosystem, the development of connected car-related technologies and the establishment of a 5th generation mobile communication (5G)-based autonomous driving testbed, and the distribution of electric vehicles and the establishment of charging infrastructure.

Daegu Metropolitan City is pursuing 'transition into an eco-friendly high-tech industrial city and leading the Fourth Industrial Revolution' as a key municipal project. With the goal of becoming a leading city for future automobiles in South Korea, it is the only local government to possess an autonomous driving test track, and last year, it promoted a project to build a V2X testbed that integrates hydrogen, renewable energy, and electric vehicle charging, which was awarded to KT.

KT announced that it is jointly developing and promoting various future convergence projects with Daegu City, such as IoT healthcare business and the establishment of a 5G-based autonomous driving testbed, based on Korea's best ICT technology, and plans to further strengthen cooperation through this business agreement by forming a regular consultative body with working-level experts.

In addition, Daegu Metropolitan City and KT plan to jointly develop a system that integrates urban disaster safety with experiential tourism services by utilizing advanced information and communication technologies (ICT), such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and virtual and augmented reality (VR, AR).

Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin said, “This business agreement will serve as an accelerating engine for building a future new growth industry city by converging the fields of future automobiles, medical, and energy, which Daegu is fostering as future growth engine industries based on KT’s advanced ICT convergence technology,” adding, “Based on cooperation with KT, we will do our best to build a future ICT convergence industry city that leads the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
