Various keynote speeches, seminars, and more prepared to mark the 30th anniversary this year

SEMICON Korea, a leading semiconductor equipment and materials exhibition, opened on the 8th.

Semicon Korea, which is being held at COEX in Seoul until the upcoming 10th (Fri), is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and is welcoming visitors with an increased number of participating companies and various events.

Semicon Korea, which launched in 1987 with 187 companies and 227 booths, will be held this year on the largest scale with 1,893 booths. The exhibition will feature 500 companies from various fields, including equipment and materials suppliers, components, design, software, and facilities, covering the entire supply chain of the semiconductor industry.


The organizers expect more than 40,000 semiconductor experts, engineers, and visitors from related industries to attend this exhibition.

To commemorate its 30th anniversary, Semicon Korea prepared an opening ceremony along with a more in-depth keynote speech. The opening ceremony proceeded with an opening address by SEMI Korea Representative Cho Hyun-dae and a congratulatory speech by Chairman Lee Yong-han, Chairman of the SEMI International Board, and kicked off the spectacular 2017 Semicon Korea with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by key figures from the Korean semiconductor industry and SEMI board members.

At the keynote speech held under the theme 'Innovation - Designing the Future,' SK Hynix Vice President Hong Sung-joo (Great Innovations of the Semiconductor Technology), HP VP Sirikant Takar (Ambient Computing: The Next Frontier), imec President Luc van den Hove (IC Innovation: The Heartbeat of Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow), and Microsoft CVP Ilan Spillinger (Microsoft HoloLens and Mixed Reality) participated and introduced the latest information related to semiconductors.


Meanwhile, Semicon Korea will host business meetings and various technology symposiums during the exhibition.

This year, a total of seven chipmakers and equipment manufacturers—including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, Intel, Micron, Sony, Toshiba, and Lam Research—are participating as corporate buyers in the 1:1 business matching program designed to help domestic companies participating in Semicon Korea create overseas business opportunities and new business opportunities.

Experts from around the world are invited to introduce in-depth semiconductor technologies at various symposiums, seminars, forums, and conferences held during the exhibition. Starting with the SEMI Technology Symposium (STS) on lithography, a hot topic in the semiconductor industry on the first day, all process technologies are covered in six categories: electronics, devices, etching, cleaning and CMP, and packaging.

In addition, papers on the latest semiconductor process technologies, such as 3D XPoint memory and FOWLP (Fan-Out Wafer Level Package), are presented at the symposium, and market seminars and Smart Manufacturing forums are held to deliver the latest market information.
