KT Holds "5G Success Pledge Ceremony" One Year Ahead of the PyeongChang Olympics
Published2017.02.09 18:24KT announced that it held the 'World's First 5G Success Pledge Ceremony'.
KT, the official telecommunications partner of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, has pledged to operate its telecommunications and broadcasting network and successfully launch 5G pilot services in celebration of 'G-365'.
The ceremony began with an opening video, followed by a presentation on the progress and future plans by Kim Hyung-jun, Director of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics Organizing Committee. A message of hope for the success of the event was then shown by Lee Hee-beom, President of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics Organizing Committee.

To increase interest in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and promote its 5G service, KT has prepared an electronic billboard and events at KT Square in Gwanghwamun. The Media Cube sculpture located in front of the main entrance of KT Square will display a countdown to the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

KT는 1월 16일에서 27일까지 스위스 제네바에서 개최된 국제전기통신연합(ITU) 회의에서, KT 5G 시범 서비스 5개가 국제표준 초안으로 채택되었다고 30일 밝혔다. KT는 평창 올림픽을 위해 개발해 온 5G 서비스들의 시나리오 및 기술요구사항을 국제표준 기고서로 제안, 표준 문서 초안으로 선정되었다.

Will KT Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu, reappointed, be empowered to pursue new strategies?
KT held a '2017 New Year Strategy Workshop' at its headquarters in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province on the 3rd. At this event, Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu presented a blueprint for 'Phase 2 Management' in front of approximately 500 key executives and employees. Currently, KT's non-telecom business revenue accounts for 10% of total sales. Chairman Hwang announced that by 2020, the company will increase the revenue share of non-telecom businesses, including platforms and global operations, to 20-30%. To this end, KT has selected five core platforms: media, smart energy, enterprise and public value enhancement, financial transactions, and disaster and safety.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
