Will Systran Beat Both Humans and Papago in the Translation Showdown?
Published2017.02.16 17:38Systran is participating in a translation competition between human translators and AI translators, jointly hosted by the International Institute of Interpreters and Translators (IITA), Sejong University, and Sejong Cyber University.
Google Translate, Naver Translate, and Papago are scheduled to participate in this competition, engaging in live translation battles with professional translators using sentences from both literary and non-literary fields. The translation time is 50 minutes, and the evaluation will be conducted by Professor Kwak Joong-chul of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, President of the Korea Association of Interpreters and Translators, and translation experts from the same association.

Systran plans to showcase its translation technology using its artificial neural network translation engine. This engine is a commercialized machine translation engine utilizing artificial neural networks. Compared to existing statistical and rule-based translation engines, it processes text at the level of entire sentences and paragraphs, enabling translation through contextual understanding.
"We believe Systran is a step ahead of other translators because, in addition to the technology that commercialized artificial neural network machine translation for the first time in the world, we support translations optimized for business fields such as law, automotive, and IT. Through this match, we aim to become the second AlphaGo and expand our position as a reliable business partner for domestic and international companies," said Ji Lucas, CEO of Systran.

This year's government R&D will focus on investing in AI, IoT, and other areas to prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
미래부와 산업부가 올해 확정된 R&D 투자 전략을 밝히는 설명회를 가졌다. 미래부는 올해 세계 ICT 시장이 2.9% 성장할 것으로 전망하며 선진국과 신흥국을 중심으로 소프트웨어 및 IT 서비스가 성장할 것으로 내다봤다. 특히 IoT, 클라우드, 빅데이터 등 ICBM 분야는 시장 수요 확대로 2년 연속 높은 성장이 기대된다. 시장 조사기관에 따르면 IoT는 35.1% 증가하고 클라우드는 18.2%, 빅데이터는 32.6%, 모바일은 스마트폰, 태블릿이 각각 6.1%, 3.2% 성장하는 것으로 나타났다.
