NXP Semiconductors Joins Automotive Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Auto-ISAC)

NXP Semiconductors announced that it has joined the Automotive Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Auto-ISAC).

Auto-ISAC was established by automotive manufacturers to create a security platform for sharing, tracking, and analyzing information on cyber threats and potential vulnerabilities related to 'connected cars'. Auto-ISAC operates as a centralized hub, enabling members to submit and receive information anonymously, thereby supporting more efficient real-time responses to cyber threats.

The automotive industry reports that the autonomous driving ecosystem, including wireless technologies that implement communication, telematics, digital broadcast reception, and ADAS systems, is becoming a potential target for hackers.

According to the Automotive Cybersecurity Best Practices Summary Report published by Auto-ISAC, it covers the organizational and technical aspects of automotive cybersecurity, including governance, risk management, security design, threat detection, and incident response. ISAC conducts training and encourages collaboration between organizations and companies. 98% of the cars in operation in the United States are manufactured by Auto-ISAC member companies.

An official from NXP Semiconductors stated, “Automotive vehicles require four layers of security: a secure interface connecting to the outside world, a secure gateway providing domain separation, a secure network providing secure communication between control units (ECUs), and a secure processing unit managing all functions of a ‘connected car.’ As a leader in these core areas, NXP will share expertise and collaborate with industry partners.”
