KT participated in the 75th 3GPP Radio Meeting, which defined standard tasks for 5G New Radio. In the meantime, KT has continuously proposed frequency standards including the 28 GHz band and the 3.5 GHz band to 3GPP based on the K-ICT frequency plan announced by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning. The decision to include this in the standard scope laid the foundation for South Korea to become the first country in the world to commercialize 5G in 2019.

Meanwhile, at this general meeting, a total of 47 global ICT operators, including the three domestic mobile carriers including KT, AT&T, and DOCOMO, jointly proposed completing the NSA (Non Standalone) standard for interoperating 5G and LTE networks by the end of this year, and this was finally approved at the meeting.

As a result, the NSA standard is set to be included as part of '3GPP Release 15,' which can be considered the beginning of 5G specifications. KT also predicted that it will become an international standard capable of utilizing both sub-6GHz frequency bands and ultra-high frequency bands.
